    RGP polishing

    Hello all,

Unfortunately, the company I work for no longer contracts with a company that is willing to polish RGP lenses as well as making them for us (we've been round and round with everyone from their reps to ours and nothing has come of it), and I have a patient who has hers done regularly every six to nine months.

My question is this-does anyone know of a company or contractor that does that sort of thing in Western New York, specifically the Buffalo area? Fees aren't an issue, the patient's comfort and vision is.

    Thanks in advance!

For polishing just get a spinner, some dmv's and some good polish. Practice makes perfect. Make sure you let your patients know polishing cl's involves some risk of "spoilage".

You can buy hand CL polishers that are safe to use. Maybe not the most effective, but pretty good.

Is Frontier Contact lens still open in Buffalo? They used to do it.

Stopped polishing in office years ago due to liability issues, sighhhhh. Still have the equipment. Our lab is Art Optical in Michigan. Not as close as you would like but an excellent lab for RGPs.

Thanks to everyone for the wonderful replies!

Unfortunately, ordering the equipment myself and doing it would all come out of my personal pocket, as the only lab equipment my home office allows me is a tinting bath. Very frustrating in the extreme, since there is so much I could do with a handstone or a polisher, but that's a rant for another time.

When I called the number, I got ABB Concise (they apparently bought Frontier), and they are in the process of referring me to someone local.

    Thanks again!

I would be in MUCHO trouble with that *Home Office* if they ever saw the amount of lab equipment, optical displays, frames, exam equipment, and optical reading material that I have at my house!!!

    Why a tinting bath?

Hopefully you get someone local that can help!

    Good luck!

Luzerne also has a GP lab in-house, if that's close enough.

I don't quite know why just a tint bath...we don't do anything in store, it drives me bats. We've asked-nope.

I did find a local place to send my patient to, but thank you all again :)
