    CLRE Exam help

Long story made short: I wasn't planning on taking the NCLE/CLRE exam so soon, but now I have to take it November 15th, so I need to learn the most in a very short time. Has anyone used this book: http://www.amazon.com/CLRE-Secrets-S...6223118&sr=1-6 ? Or does anyone have any suggestions for what resources to use to be able to pass the test with minimal studying? I have very little experience with or knowledge of contact lenses. Thank you all for any help and advice!

    Hi Brian-

I would suggest getting this book on amazon. Contact lenses: The CLAO guide to basic science and clinical practice. The reason for this is because on the NCLE you need to know a lot of the clinical practice, and basic science about contact lenses. There is another book to get but I don't have that info right now. A lot of Community Colleges use this book in thier curriculum. Get this one for now, you wont be sorry!

Thanks deejc9! I notice the first link shows to be one Vol. 2 and one Vol. 3, while the third link (same book title) doesn't say what volume it is. Any recommendations there?

You want to get the CLAO Residents Contact Lens Curriculum.CLAO Residents Contact Lens Curriculum Manual ,
Contact Lens Manual: A Comprehensive Study and Reference Guide (Volume 1) and Advanced Contact Lens Manual; A Comprehensive Study and Reference Guide, Volumes 1 & 2 I wasn't at home yesterday so, these are right books and they are books that Community Colleges use to prepare their students for the NCLE. I refer my students to these books as well because I'm an Optical Instructor. At the College I teach at I just do an introduction to contact lenses. Go to this link https://www.nao.org/catalog/iteminfo...d=301&compid=1 You can purchase this study manual that will give you sample questions. I believe this is a test review for contact lens techs which is by Contact. I tried to find it online, so I think this is the one on the nao website. That should help prepare you. Good luck! If you need anything else just let me know.

If you are just taking the basic NCLE and since you are limited on time, just get the CLSA Contact Lens Manual Vol I with the test book, which is the second book that deejc9 mentioned. It's a set that has about 300 test questions taken from samples of past exams . You can get it directly from them at CLSA.info. Although the other books are great, they are acutally designed for the Advanced Exam and will give you too much information for the basic exam. You won't need most of that info at this point.

Thanks deejc9, GAgal and Diane for your help. Unfortunately I only have enough time and money for one study guide, so of these three, is there a concensus as to which would be best for the basic exam prep?

    I passed!

Thanks to deejc9, GAgal, Diane, and Yeap (and I guess Fezz too). I really appreciate your suggestions. I ended up getting the CLSA book, which is great, and I scored an 87, which I'm pretty happy with, considering I have zero practical experience. Now, Fezz, I'm gonna go have a beer!

im in the same boat. I have never worked with contact (except for wearing them) and never will. Our doctor deals with all the contacts and we strictly have a Optical Lab. Ive been studying up on the glasses side of things and forgot all about the NCLE. Im deffinatly gonna try out a couple of these books seeing as the books i have to study from are the same ones my grandparents used to take their tests ohh sometime around 800 BC lol. Anyone have anything specific I should study up on more?

I think Yeap hit the nail on the head here. Get the CLSA book, study it, and you'll do fine. But if you want to do really well, get some practical experience applying what you're studying. And good luck!
