I'm surprised that there are not more opticians complaining about this. Essilor has had control for along time and something needs to be brought up about whats going on.

Can we control the sandbox? Certainly not if we can't at least send a letter or four. My letters go out today to Gregoire, Kondo, Kreidler and Hirschfeld. Thank you Nouveau for leading the fight for independence!

Don't forget the one to the attorney for Nouveau Optical. I believe his name was Paul Taylor with Byrnes & Keller, LLP.

Nouveau Optical and its attorneys need to know they have support as well.

The attorney representing Nouveau is very qualified. I would guess he wouldn't have taken them on if he didn't think there was a valid case.

    Profile

Paul R. Taylor is an experienced trial lawyer, having tried over twenty cases to verdict or decision. Paul has been widely recognized for his trial skills. Following the verdict in a two-month jury case, the trial judge in open court described him as “one of the toughest cross-examiners” she had ever seen. In another case, a front-page story in Seattle’s leading daily described how he had “nearly undressed” one of the opposition’s key witnesses with a “withering” cross-examination. Chamber’s Guide to America’s Leading Business Lawyers describes Paul as a “star.”

Matters Paul has tried include the successful defense of a $200 million legal malpractice case, whether the arena lease of an NBA franchise was specifically enforceable, a high-stakes patent dispute for one of the nation’s leading consumer products manufacturers, a First Amendment commercial speech case for a professional sports team, a criminal antitrust and perjury prosecution, plaintiff’s personal injury and wrongful death claims, and real property disputes. Areas of concentration include professional liability defense, general commercial disputes, securities, antitrust and consumer protection, condemnation and employment. Finally, as Special Counsel to the Washington Commission on Judicial Conduct, Paul has investigated and tried several judges accused of misconduct.

Do we really want to control the sandbox? Wouldn't it be nice just to have a fair playing field for once. Davis, Essilor, VSP, ect. not trying to take your business from you.

How many more reasons do you all need to start supporting independently owned wholesale labs???

You are absolutely right. This is not a matter of having "control" just not "giving" away your right to choose. The narrower the field gets the less options are available (unless you count 197 progressive lens designs from a single mfg) :hammer:

We do not want to control the sandbox.............we want to prevent the large corporation from doing even more that they already do.

This is World War 4, worldwide takeover by the big corporate industry in their domains, from drug to optical. According to the accusing paper posted on on top of this thread, Essilor owned and related labs have just about reached the 50% mark (some 36,000) of daily production of finished glasses compared to independent labs.

When you add the owned labs the other 2 large corporations operate, you might just about hit 70% of production done by corporate owned businesses.

Essilor has just received the medal for best company in France in acquisitions of other optically related companies.

What will be the results when they have reached an absolute majority ?

At least read the first 2 letters in the documents, and then act on it one way or another.

Look all we want is a fair playing field. You as a Doctor, Optician, or a Optical Retailer should be concerned about what is going on in this field. Davis has their little retail stores now. When will Essilor bring theirs in to this country? When will VSP start to compete with you? Why are all of the Doctors, Opticians supporting the big lens manufacturers by selling their lenses and using the labs that they own. The small independent labs can do more for you than the big labs and know who you are. Your not just a number to the smaller labs. If you want to keep this business running in the right direction you have to support the labs that are out there supporting you and your business.

    Judy,
Since Pech is no longer "independant just like you" and eating at the feet of the big "E" are you the largest independant left? Or is it Katz & Klien in Sacramento?
