Just heard that Maui Jim has stopped doing business with Luxottica today. Maui Jim will no longer be sold at any Luxottica owned retail stores including Sunglass Hut.

I figured that since neither of them were at VEW, they were vacationing together in tropical Peoria, Ill., and would come back with some announcement of their impending marriage.
Lux probably gave them a lowball offer that insulted them...

Would have been interesting to have been a fly on the wall of that conference room when it went down. Too bad so many of the other well made sunnies got sucked into the Lux works. My old Revos were some of the best lenses I'd ever worn - more so now that I was presented with the "new" Revo look. Conveniently destroyed and utterly ruined by the Oakley "design" team who have sunk their talons in deep. Such a shame. Although, much the same happened with Ray Ban back at the beginning of the decade.
Progress. :hammer::shiner:
Ah well - at least we humans still know how to make good beer! (NOT counting any form of American mass produced swill mind you!) :cheers::cheers::cheers:
Somebody say BEER??
I'll drink to that!

Maybe they got a better deal to sell at Costco.:bbg:
It's for real.
Per our franchise portal, they have issued an immediate stop-sell on all RX Maui's and will sell through all their inventory of plano. The memo did state that Lux hopes this will not be "final".
Being a PV franchise, I don't know if they can prevent us from still carrying them.

This news almost made me sad!
Then I remembered...................I don't give a damn about either company!!!
I could care less...................how about you?
Could this be an oakley type deal in the works?
Lux offers to buy the brand, Maui balks at it, so they cut distribution... maui see's a decrease in sales, so gives in and sells out to the empire?
im interested to talk to a maui rep now, seems like there will be some decent buy in deals now so maui can gain some retial leverage back they will be losing.
I am happy. That is more Maui Jims for the private practices to sell. By the way, Costco only sells discontinued Maui Jims.
Welcome to Optiboard!
As for the disco'ed Maui Jims at Costco...................Try explaining that to a patient that you are trying to CONvince that the full retail of $$$ for a *CURRENT* model bought from you is somehow worth it compared to the $$ Costco is charging for a frame built out of the same materials and with same lenses made from the same materials, coatings and properties as the Maui that you are trying to muscle them for$$$!
:cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers:;)
No, as a franchise you can choose to continue to do busines with MJ if you want.
Welcome to optiboard indeed!
Where abouts in Il. are you from? Possibly tropical Peoria? That post sure seems to be a lot like I hear out of corporate Maui Jim, which just happens to be in...Peoria! (Hmm...now that's a coincidence!)
Why are you happy? Has there been a shortage of Maui Jims in Il.?

get a life! No, I am not in Peoria. Also, let those Costco people get replacement parts when they break there Maui Jims and they are discontinued. I work for a private practice and we sell LARGE QUANTITIES of Rx Maui Jims, so with Luxottica out of the picture our Rx sales will be going up. I also really don't care if franchises have them also. It is just more money in our pockets. HURRAY FOR US.
Just curious to hear from other Lux employees how well MJ sells at their respective stores. At my LC store they just sit in the case. I've personally sold 2 plano suns in the past 2 years at my current location, both of which were to cust who lost their old MJ suns, and have done maybe 1 rx in COF.
Does SGH sell that many MJ? Most of our RX sun (and plano sales for that matter) are Oakley and RB.
I really doubt this deal will effect Lux that much, as now they can take the $$ they have been paying MJ and bring in more Lux product which costs them very little.

GREAT NEWS!!
Thank you so much for filling me in! I do not shop in those type places! I never did and never will!
These are DUDS or *Brands* that I would never carry anyway! I know now for sure to never carry them!!!
Hopefully one day you can escape from BigBoy Island!!!!
Good luck!!

Ok, if I'm wrong, I apologize. Do you work for an OD, MD, or Optician? I just have never heard of anyone independent selling LARGE QUANTITIES of Rx Mauis before. Gauging from my PMs, this is an eye opener for many of us.
Plus, what Costco buyer would care about parts when they are buying them 2 for $98? You just go and buy two more.

I opened my mid-month bills this evening, and for the first time in more than 5 years, I rec'd. a correspondence from MJ that was not informing me of the newest styles that are now available in Costco.
It was from the big cheese telling me what we all knew, and how much he appreciated Lux's business, but from now on, he's going to appreciate mine even more! Very touching...
Nice letter. I wished I hadn't so readily tossed it into the woodburner, but the kindling needed a little help, and it's going down into the 30s tonight.
