Seems fast to me. :)
Yep, but it always seemed fast to me before. I'm going to move this to the Conversation forum just in case anyone else wants to comments on how OptiBoard is running for them.

To me it seems to be loading pages smoother . Before the switch when i went to view a thread i would initially see the first 1/4 or 1/2 of the page with the rest filling in a couple secs later. Now it loads the entire page all at once.
I still encounter occsional problems when I want to make a reply.Sometimes I have to reload the page 3 or 4 times to get it to come up.I used to think it was perhaps due to heavy use of the ISP but I have the problem at work in off hours with DSL so I have no idea why it is happening.Steve originally thought it was because I was using netscape but IE is such a pain I rarely use it.Going good today though! hj

What do you expect when you have to crank the computer up to get it started?????? LOL!

Hey wait a minute...............I didn't know that mac was selling an optional "crank" for their G4. That should have increased the performance level by at least 75%. :D :D :D
P.S. Just kidding harry, your the best. I just couldn't let that one get by. :bbg:
Harry,
Some service providers will actually time out (stop loading) if a page does not load in a certain amount of time. I use netscape 4.7 6.2 and IE 6.0 and never had a problem on the board. You may want to check with your DSL provider and see what they they have to say........just a thought.
Sean, Checked with the testing site you sent me to and DSL is operating 14 times faster than 56k.I notice that the machine spends a lot of time cleaning up disk cache and dumping files before I can download.Sometimes I have to reload 4-5 times.Yesterday I ran Norton disk dr and rebuilt the desktop which seems to have smoothed out the procedure this AM.We'll see later today.
Sean, why not post that testing website as a new thread? I 'm sure a lot of members would enjoy knowing how fast or slow their connection is!

Beginning about two or three days ago, I noticed a dramatic increase in having to "reload" pages (especially when replying, as Harry noticed).
I didn't mention anything because a.) Steve always blames it on Netscape (glad to know there's another Netscape user out there, Harry), and b.) I'm getting used to having to reload pages.
Anyway, if something has been changed during the past couple days, it does seem to have an effect on my Netscape (so Harry, myself, and the other two people still using Netscape will notice it...).
;) Is there any way to increase the "time out" length on Netscape?

I haven't really noticed any changes in speed one way or the other. Plus there haven't been any changes to the server or OptiBoard. I wonder if this could be a network congestion issue? Or perhaps there's some routing issues that the web host still needs to resolve. This could explain why it would be slow for some people, but not others. If it is routing issues, these will be resolved over the next couple of weeks.
