Why when i order the same brand lenses (SolaXL) my lab send it to me with different color markings on the same base curve.
Green, Yellow, Blue
They all look like original markings with sola logo.

Lenny,
I get asked the question everyday by one of my lab people. Sola changes ink color a lot. I think it has to do with head games. No really I think they are testing different inks for how well it stays on or comes off. Either that or they don't buy enough of a color and have to use what ever is available.

Hi
Could be different inks for different lens materials.
I have noticed on CR 39 it is purple, Transitions is yellow,
Different materials will use different marking colors on the same lens design. Some colors adhere better on poly vs. Cr-39, etc. Some adhere too well. Some have higher solvent concentrations and will leave ghosts on the lens after removal.
Believe me, this is a much larger issue than one would think! You can only imagine how much time is spent marking, removing, and tinting lenses----all just to test inks.

One factor is that the Transitions are marked at Transitions America.. not at the Sola factories :)Originally posted by Matthew:

I took a tour of Transitions a dew months back and if any of you guys ever get a chance to tour the factories it's very interesting.. I went all through the Silor buildings and then they took us by bus over to the Transitions buildings...sheesh what a load of lens. I wish they would have given us a few skids of lens as "memento's" .. They must have had 50,000 Varilux's and Thin&Lites and Ormex's sitting right by the door ready to take into the coating section... It was pretty interesting. They were coating a **** load of finished high index SV when I went by and they just popped them on a machine it flipped the lens around took a reading and pulled the appropriate envelopes and out they came..
Oh well I thought it was interesting.. The only thing that struck me as weird is that the poly section was animated but the rest of it was very "labor" intensive..

EVERYTHIG IS THE SAME ON THOSE LENSES
its CR39, the same BC,same add, even same RX(ha ha)
Everything but the ink collour
Strange?!
Lenny,
They all maybe made at different shifts and or at different places...I don't know how many Sola has but I know Essilor has factories in FL. CA. TX and CT. and I think OH... could be thats the culprit.

Lenny,
In our continuous efforts to improve the performance of our products, we are in the process of changing over to yellow ink on CR39 VIP. The yellow ink will improve the tint ability. While the existing color is good quality, we strive to continuously improve all SOLA products to stay at the leading edge of technology in the industry.
If you have further questions or inputs, please feel free to contact me at nroellke@sola.com.
