    Dispensing Men's Eyewear

I just wrote about this subject on my blog http://theopticalvisionsite.com/mark...-mens-eyewear/. One of the subjects I would like to get more info on is the significant number of male optical consumers that need larger sized eyewear but these potential purchasers often find their choices limited. I am looking for some good recommendations for them.

The XXL line by A&A has a lot of good men's frames in large sizes, but they don't have just humongous, goofy-looking lenses. I really like this line because a larger guy an wear a frame that fits well and is still "trendy." They have styles also for guys with a wider head, but a relatively narrow PD. They need a wide frame, but not wide lenses. I've fit several teenage guys in these frames. It's a good feeling when the patient feels they look sharp in something that fits.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

Nouveau Eyewear makes a line for bigger guys called VanHeusen. They offer a wide range of memory metals and trendy frames for men age 16 and up. The frames have extended temple lengths and a wider than average eye size.

Of late, I have been seeing a lot of men who want to leave metals and rimless and go back to plastics. Anyone else seeing this? Ain't a whole bunch of plastics in the shapes they want available in large enough sizes. We are appearently the most overweight state in the country, as well as the lowest income.

Ive seen it here in Ohio too. The Timberland line made by Marcolin might be worth checking out. I just added it about a year ago and they seem to have a wide range of zyl frames for men that are in need of a larger eyesize.

A&A XXL has zyl frames also in current styles. It's the only line I am aware of that carries wide but not deep frames for big heads.

As someone who has a fairly large head (69.5 DPD) and I'm also
-5.25 -1.00 X 115 in my worse eye. There are frames from a few lines we carry that fit me (and that are useable with my prescription): 1. Nike (Marchon), with the bowed temples I can get a relatively small A while still getting a frame that fits. 2. Silhouette's 3 piece (or any 3 piece for that matter) grant it I have to wear at least a 1.67 with this to not lose too much vision due to edge thickness (in the two pairs I currently have 1 is a 1.70 and the other is a 1.74). 3. A&A's XXL line, there are frames in this line that are big on me. 4. Modern Optical's BMEC collection, for a value line, these frames are a decent quality and the size ranges are sufficent though not as wide as XXL.

"Fatheadz" out of Indiana has been a lifesaver for my patients. HUGE eye and temple sizes, really nice styles. They also have a line for women called "Diva"....yes I know, Wallyworld carries them...but I called and am the exclusive private practice in our area using them....keeping the prices in line with Wallyworld for the Fatheadz has patients buying several pair, since they have finally found someone that can fit them ;)
