    cK USB sunglasses

Has anybody else seen these yet?? I read an article a couple weeks ago, and asked my husband if he would even wear these. He was really jazzed about them, so I got ahold of my rep, and they arrived in my office on Monday. My doc I work for got a kick out of them, so I've ordered a set for the office. My thinking: the reaction is going to be people will either love them or think they're stupid. I thought it was way geeky, but Strider's already had several people think they were cool (I'm going to make sure he's carrying my business card when he shows them off).

I just wanted to know what ya'll thought about the idea, if you'd seen them yet, etc.

If you hadn't heard of these, and can't tell what you're looking at, it's a USB flash drive in the temple. It just snaps in and out. Cool? Dorky?

I've seen these and others like them. I think it's an idea that's not really needed.

Could we sell them to industrial spies?

Did the Oakley MP3 or Blue Tooth Sunglasses really take off? No. They sold a little here and there, but nothing major. How about that guy who combined Chop Sticks and Glasses?

Plus, the sunglasses being shown are female ones. How many females do you see get excited about computers?

Yeah, this struck me as a sort-of "we can do it, so we will".

I'm not very tech savvy, but I can't understand why someone would need a flash drive on the spur of the moment.

    Let alone in sunglasses.

    I don't get it.

Will go over about as big as a frame we saw about 10 years ago that had a little pad inside the temple for perfume!

I don't know many women who would wear these suns...too boxy.

I agree that it is simply a we can so we will deal. Has anyone seen the Fendi suns with attached mink earmuffs?

Maybe Marchon likes to throw these at us to see if anyone will bite...

Speaking of bombed products, what happened to the electrically darkening lenses?

Snort. You guys are cracking me up. This is kind of what I thought when I first saw them. How dorky to push your sunglass temple into your computer. But Strider is really, really liking them. Yeah, he's a computer nerd. He thinks he is all that with his go-go-gadget sunglasses.

I did think it was a "we can do it, so we will" thing too, drk. The guy's style is just fine-looking for a sunglass. The ladies' version has a deeper "B," and I'm afraid that will just look stupid, really. But if there's some gal who wants her flash drive on her face, she probably doesn't care if she looks cool to others. Just my thoughts.

    Thanks for all your replies!

So is it wrong I thought, "Cool!" as soon as I saw them? :o

Now if the came in non-sun, I'd be tempted.

I remember the ones from about 20 years ago that had the little wood pieces in the temples for the perfume. I seem to recall they came with a little dropper bottle to replace the perfume as needed.

Actually, that is part of the problem with these too. We had one guy who actually WAS a private investigator and wanted the Oakley's with the blue tooth. First problem is the job was not RXable. Second was we wanted to make them with transitions instead of tinted, so he could wear them ALL OF THE TIME.

I mean I would have more practicality for a RX line with a USB or with a MP3 player or with a Blue tooth. Because I wear these all of the time. I do not want to carry a pair of sunglasses with me in the middle of the night because it has those components that I may need.

Being a self professing geek, if they were my "style" I'd go for a pr. This might sell well in the tech. savvy areas like San Fran. and Seattle. These are a niche product that may sell well if marketed in the right places to the right people. I hope March./VSP has done their research. Maybe they can have them reviewed by a tech website like Revision3.

I am glad that you brought up research. There was a thread a while ago arguing that all of the big companies must be competent enough to do and follow up with research and any major decision of theirs has to be thought out. I think by discussing the failures in this thread, we have unveiled that not all major decisions are driven by smart research

So what happens when the size of the USB key becomes pathetically small? I have a 512 Mb USB key around somewhere - it's really only good for shuttling word docs or a few pictures these days.

Built in obsolescence is a great way to encourage repeat business!

The physical USB interface will remain the same(the part that plugs into the computer). Actually, with the increasing use of smaller transistors, it would be feasible to incorporate a 32GB chip into the design. That's good for about 6 full length standard definition DVD movies. Or one Blu-Ray full length movie and maybe a couple of standard def. movies.

My computer guru tells me that anything over 4 gigs becomes so slow you wouldn't want to use it.
I did see some on sale that were 40 or 80 and asked him before buying.
