I have been working at a busy optical office for over three years. We are open five days a week, three of which have two doctors working. With double the patient load, and being the sole optician in the practice, I am looking for ways to make my job run a bit more smoothly behind the scenes so that I can focus my attention more on our patients. My main issue right now is the lack of an inventory system. The doctors I work for have been using Practice Maximus for over 8 years and are reluctant to change. We have tried keeping tags from frames, using the cardboard backings that frames come with, manually jotting down frames as they're sold... all of which have proven to be time-consuming and ineffective overall. I am not naive to the fact that inventory takes a lot of work, especially upon initial setup, but I have had little to no success keeping track of best sellers, low-selling lines, and bottomline inventory dollars.
My question for you wonderful experts out there is this: Is there an independent inventory system that can solve my rather complex problem? I have heard that optician-only systems exist but would like the input and advice from others in my field.
