    Help with Marco 101 lensometer

Took apart a Marco 101 lensmeter and cleaned up all of the optics. I noticed the target moves all over the place when you turn the axis wheel. Help!! I took the assembly out and took that apart, there are two lenses that have to be lined up and centered with 3 set screws, whats the trick. HELP!!!, :hammer:

    Angry

Did you remove the target and the lenses behind the lens contact?
You may have got the instrument out of diopter power reading calibration as well as off axis.
Almost all optical cleaning con be done without taking the instrument
    completely apart.
Reluctantly, I have to tell you if you have to ask these questions after taking the instrument completely apart you :hammer: lack the ability to properly adjust and calibrate the instrument.
I repair and calibrate instruments professionally. as well as supply parts for Lensometers, Vertometers and other instruments.
You have made a repair that could have been done in minutes into a repair that will take at least an hour, maybe longer

    Angry It's not rocket science!!!

While I appreciate your input I don't appreciate your insinuation. First of all I did not take the unit completely apart to clean the optics just the covers to get to the lenses. This was a backup unit and I noticed when I turned the axis wheel the whole target moved all over the place. So I called Marco and they told me I probably needed the whole new assembly. Since it was a backup and I had nothing to lose I then took the assembly apart. Now not for nothin' it aint rocket science! How many moving parts are involved.

OK now if someone else would like to reply and give me a hand instead of chastizing me I would appreciate it. There are two lenses with the target which are adjustable with 3 set screws, I have managed to get the target in the center but it still moves a little when I turn the axis wheel. If I wanted to incurr the cost of having it repaired I would'nt have messed with it myself in the first place!!!!!

Marco sells instruments. Do not depend on them for service advice.
What did you take apart or remove?
Does the target make a motion like a circle?
Does the target stay displaced in one location/
Does the target make a motion like an oval?
The target can be off center.
The collimating lens assembly can be off center.
Each centering adjustment affects the target centering differently.
There are different adjustments for different alignment problems.
Making the wrong adjustment will offset one error with another.
If both the target and the collimating lens are off center then the centering becomes more difficult.
Imagine solving an equation for two unknowns
The optical cleaning of most lensmeters can be accomplished with out major disassembly of the instrument.
I frequently see instruments severely screwed up by people who say they know what they are doing.* Then there is the second group, who do not want to be ripped off by the first group and elect to try to fix it by themselves.
I admit to being cynical, having experienced among other incidents a plumber turning a small leak into a broken 12" pipe and a roofer who was hired to repair a roof succeeding in burning the building to the ground.
Do not get to close to me. I seem to be magnet for calamity!!!

    Dear Howeard;

I own a 101 that is in need of some adjustment, and I want to make sure it is done correctly.

How do I get in touch?

    Thanks

Fusion, where are you located? I will be traveling next month and might possibly be near you. I am reluctant to take on much more work at this time. It is almost 4:00 A. M. and I am still working

You might want to check with the company that bought out RH Burton.

Here is a thread talking about it!

No, I do not do Phoropters. Who was doing yours?
I plan on visiting SECO next month and attending some non optical events in Florida. If time and circumstance allow maybe I could visit.
