OK, who can clear this up for us...

We currently have no Varilux rep in our area and have been hearing about this new Essilor "Ideal" lens from some lab reps.

Can anyone please verify: This is not a Varilux product, right?

So it is probably also marketed to Wal-mart and/or other chains??

Any info would be helpful, as a lab rep tried to make it seem as though this was the latest and greatest thing from essilor; but we already use the Varilux Ipseo and didnt think they would replace that already.

    Thanks!!

This is not the response you were asking for...

...but aren't you a little fatigued by the plethora of lenses from that company?

When I was looking around I found this spreadsheet on Essilor's website
    http://essilorlenses.com/essilorLens...ogressives.htm

Note this webpage is for all Essilor, non-Varilux/Definity lenses and has all the technical specs for them (13 lens styles in all)

and at the bottom of the front page it says:

Any questions or suggestions contact Ramzi Ari or Arlene Caputo at 800-377-4567 Ext. 7197 or techquestions@essilorusa.com

That's where I'd ask if I wanted to find out, because I can't figure it out the difference either.

Looks to me like the Ideal Advanced is an 'individualized' freeform lens and the Ideal is a 'standard' freeform lens, but I'm not exactly sure.
You can check out availabilities here:

    well...

Glad to see I'm not the only one confused and perhaps overwhelmed by all the lenses from essilor...

But we dont use "Essilor" lenses anyway, we stick to the Varilux family.

So if it's a consensus, then we are not interested in the Ideal....

I think it sounds like the lens to replace the Accolade for Walmart anyway!

    Is it this...or that?

Maybe that is the lens that they are planning on generating a bunch of buzz about so when they launch with FramesDirect, the consumer brand awareness will be built in and ready to go(thanks to the sheep ECP)?

IMO, using Varilux lenses just destroys your bottom line. There are a whole plethora of lenses with greater technology and a lesser price. That being said, many lens companies are relaunching their designs to compete in the current recession. They change the name of the lens and redistribute at cheaper prices. I can't provide the examples in a public forum, but it happens regularly.

I don't want to PO the lens manufacturers. I'd like to keep the new pricing.
