    Mary's gone

Although I was never a "folkie," Peter Paul and Mary came to fame in the sixties with a simple 3 part harmony and an anti-war philosophy. Mary just passed away, and the sixties music scene has lost another pioneer, and the land called Hon-alee has gained one.

A sad day !! I was lucky enough to see her perform both with Peter and Paul, and as a solo.

I first saw them perform in a coffee house about half full in 1961 or 62. I was about 10 feet away from them. I next saw them in the cage at UMASS capacity about 10,000 depending on the event. I had a friend on the distinquished visitors committee and got seats in the 10th row for zip! Advance to 1966 , graduated frp college, working, and green in my pockets at last. 2 Tickets to see them in the Springfield Auditorium- capacity 15 or 20 K. Tickets were about 40 bucks apiece, and I was in the 3rd balcony in the next to last row. I would have needed a pair of 8X40's to see them clearly! Goes to show you I was better off broke as a student, than I am now! :):)

I was a huge fan of theirs and enjoy their music today. If you are interested in the tributes of her peers, go here- http://www.peterpaulandmary.com/

I just noticed I turned 6K with this post. (That is NOT counting the over 2K I had using the old vBulletin program)...hated to lose those! :(

I heard about her this morning. Too bad. I'm no hippie, but I love, love her voice. Hers and Cass Elliott's. :(

Music of a gentler era. Sigh.

    RIP, Mary.
