    Ophthalmic assisting questions

I am currently an ABO certified optician, and looking to go in a slightly different direction with my career...

I am confused though about the different types of ophthalmic assisting possibilities, it seems like there is 4 different types of assistants???

    Ophthalmic Assistant
    Ophthalmic Clinical Assistant
    Ophthalmic Technician
    Ophthalmic Technologist

does anyone know the differences? is there an order to them- do you have to start with one to get to the next? i am so confused!

where can i find literature to study?

    Start here. http://www.eyetechs.com/

I have more somewhere, if I can find it soon I'll send it. A better place for this thread would have been general discussion, lots of techs read the posts there.

Another thought is to check into becoming an Optometric Tech or Optometric Assistant. Contact the AOA for info.

Go here and all will be explained to you:

If you do not want to spend the remainder of your working career replacing broken screws and "selling" eyewear you might find a rewarding career in this field.

Docs dont pay for CPOA or CPOT (I was one)...they are more likely to pay for a COA.
