I took the North Carolina Boards in 1994.

Six years ago, the test did not yield a high passing rate.

If it is about Optics then know it. The test takes a day and a half to complete.

Home up on your practical application of
handling contact lens and slit lamp, as well as taking a finished lens to size by hand, using a diamond or ceramic wheel.

    All optical theory including formula's.

Study , Study, Study to prepare.

    Good Luck,
let us know how you do!

I took it last year, my wife is taking it this year. Bone up on CL's and your practical skills. Hopefully you have passed the ABO & NCLE, that gets you out of 3 of the 9 tests. If you fail the CL written, you can take the NCLE in Nov.

I'm in the 2 year license degree program right now, so I haven't had to face the dreaded test yet. But, I know for sure that there are books you can buy with practice tests in them. I wish I could name names for you. Maybe call the state board? Or contact the Opticianry program at Durham Tech. (Ellen Stoner is one of the teachers there and she's bursting with knowledge)

Here is the link to what is on the board. It also gives information as to what books pertain to what part. Good Luck!
