I don't remember where I read this, but when touch tone phones first rolled out, the computer systems needed a good solid tone seperated from the previous and next tone by a silence. With so many people, at the time, using 10-key adding machines, the telephone company changed the layout to force people to slow down while dialing.

Heck, relabel them, then reassign them. You could do that with all your other keys on your computer too. Just for giggles, reassign all your keys one key to the right and watch someone type.
