Beer brewed with prehistoric yeast strain

"You may talk o' gin and beer" as that famous Kipling poem goes.. and there's been plenty of beer talk on OptiBoard in recent times, from the White House "beer summit", back to the recent topic of home brewing and before that, "What's your favorite beer?"; so much beer talk that it doesn't seem out of line (to me) to post this one as a new thread.

Here in California there is a group that is brewing beer (or ale, to be more precise) with yeast that was cultivated from a prehistoric fossilized bee. Yeah, the Jurassic Park thing.. sort of. Yeast that was trapped in amber for 45 million years before being revived by the mad scientists of the Fossil Fuels Brewing Company.

I thought I posted this once before, but since I couldn't find it with the OptiBoard Search function.. here it is.

For the record, I have not had any of this ale. And I don't know where to find it, although the website that I posted (just above) may offer that information.

    Here's to 45 million years..

Almost 3 hours since your post and no sign of Fezz Unless he is out trying to get his hands on some kegs...;)

Wonder how much they would have been able to brew?
It’s so simple to be wise. Just think of something stupid to say and then don’t say it.

That's gnarly. I'd give it a go for sure! Wonder how long it took them to cultivate enough yeast to brew with?

Sounds like meade (fermented honey) to me. Meade was I believe the first known alcahol beverage...made then by simply leaving the honey out in the open to collect airborne yeasts. If you have ever tried it...it packs a punch and goes down warm....yum bzzzzzzz Gary:cheers:

If properly handled and managed, the yeast can multiply many times and be *washed* and used repeatedly.

I would be interested to try it.................only to say that "I did it!". But, it really is more pf a gimicky sales ploy more than a real humdinger of a revelation!

My dad was telling me and my boyfriend about this. He tried it and said it was better than he expected.
