    White Zyl Temples HELP!

I have a very nice lady that purchased glasses from me about 6 months ago. The frames have a metal front and white zyl temples. Her make up has changed the temples to a reddish brown color around the edges. She is one of my best patients and has bought four pairs of glasses in the past year, so I had no problem replacing the temples, but I did let her know it was her makeup. Do any of you have suggestions on how to protect the new temples, short of telling her to change her makeup?

Nope. You told her it was her make-up, what more can you do? Nice of you to replace them for her. I am pretty sure there is nothing you can do to keep it from happening again though other than adjusting the temples so that they do not touch her skin until they are back near her hairline which is how they should be anyway.

I told her to clean them after every use, lol. She laughed so hard about that, but really thats the only thing I could come up with. She wanted to put clean nail polish on them but I didn't think that was a good idea. She switches between four pairs of current glasses, so hopefully she won't tarnish them. I was just wondering if anyone else ran into this problem or if there was a product I could use to coat them.

If you can clean them-really clean them, then you might try a clear coat spray for automobiles. It would last longer than nail polish and be a better finish. (Use it also for those cheap metal frames that turn skin green. If you could spray it prior to the first wear, it would be better.)

Actually it probably is not the makeup but acidity in the facial perspiration.
There is a total sealer for temples, nosepads on plastic as well as metal frames, to protect them and on metal frames prevent oxidation.

You will find it at: http://optochemicals.com/main-english.htm

Scroll down the page to " FRAME PROTEC" and click on the link. Use it and you will never see the same problem again.

We get a ton of old ladies with makeup caked on the inside of the temples. I'm not sure how to prevent it. I usually use some alcohol to take it off. I think that even if you seal it, it will get make up on it. The makeup will just be on the sealer instead of directly on the temple. That FrameProtek sounds interesting.

    Redhot Jumper

Actually if you treat them with Frame Protect, there will be nothing sticking to it..........just wipe it off. Comparable to your slick coat on AR coated lenses, only will last much longer.
