    Your Latest Buying Trends?

Just curious as to what your latest buying trends have been? Zyl, metal, memory metal, magnetic clips? I have had a ridiculous influx of magnetic clip requests. I hated to buckle and buy so many pieces that seemingly affect my second pair sunglass sales, but patients were leaving to go somewhere else in search of these frames. Just wondering if any of you have had a heavy request for specific frames?

If I have a heavy influx of requests for specific frame types that I do not have then I have not been buying very effectively. Sun clips for women especially are a hot item this time of year. I wear a Magic Clip and can't keep my model in stock in any color. If you know your market you can many times judge the trends that are on the way. I noticed today that I need more progressive friendly womens semi rimless in trendy designs and more men's full frames in smaller sizes. Gotta give em what they want or someone else will.

Check out the Chemistrie Clips. http://www.eyenovate.com/index.php

I believe that Johns on here does these in house as well.

Every frame becomes a magnetic clip-on -- no additional frames to stock.

No financial interest, just love the product.
A lack of planning on your part DOES NOT constitute an emergency on mine!

We used to stock 150 Aspex frames in each of our stores. We now stock none, and are selling more mag clips than we ever have. It's one of the best referal products we've ever carried, but don't bother carrying them if you're not making them in house.

I'd say it's the best new product to come out in the last 5 years.

    Selling trends?

We've been selling the Morel like there's no tomorrow. I can't understand it, as they're not inexpensive, and all you hear about is how tight everyone is, but once they try it on, they seem willing to let the kids go hungry for a few weeks to make up the difference in price.:D

We are killing it with the Morel Oga 6354O 52-17, and it is our most expensive men's frame

Why do I hate these things? Is it the stupid dot on the lens or what? I cannot seem to get my arms around this product.

Seriously...I really, truly hope that it doesn't take off. When we show it, folks can't believe it, and I really am glad that it's not available anywhere w/in 80 miles of any of my stores. It's hard enough to set yourself apart, but when everybody has the same products, it is extremely difficult.

    No in house

I have no in house lab, it's a really small ophthalmology office, I'm the only optician, and the only one who deals with the glasses. So no chemistrie's for me. I had magnetic clips here when I "inherited" all the previous optician had done, and had twelve pieces that didn't, I still have four and they are not much to look at so I've had a lot of interest. Was just curious as to what was HOT everywhere else.

Kids these days are overweight anyway. It's good for them. Makes them appreciate what they have - or will have once the specs are paid off.

Do you have the santinelli edger to do these (listed as required equipment on their website) or are you taking a more manual approach?

No, I've got a 7e. I've been to their lab though, and they do it by hand (manual drill press) w/great results.
