    Health Care Mess...

So the latest is that the White House is talking about having the top wage earners (the headline said "rich") pay for the majority of the new health care plan. So the people that don't/won't work will be getting a free ride from those that work the hardest.

I don't have a problem with that. We've been paying for the freeloaders for years, and are used to it.

What I really have a problem with is the illegal immigrants that have bogged down the system to the point where in some US cities, their are more illegal immigrants getting care than citizens.

What do you (Americans) think? Is it just, and everyone's cool with this, or is it time to say enough is enough.

    ...
Yeah, those rich freeloaders! They get the best healthcare insurance for free - and who pays for it? We do, through inflated product/service prices. And they don't even pay taxes on the value of the insurance! Middle class people pay taxes on their wages, then have to use already-taxed-dollars to buy what health insurance that they can afford - usually with high deductibles or co-pays. I curse those rich freeloaders!
    ...Just ask me...

I think sending the illegal immigrants to Jesus is the best idea yet.

As I've mentioned before. They (Congress) are above the law.

They make laws, but they don't have to live by them. The Health Care Plan will not personally affect them. They will retain their ultra pemium care, and life will go on.

Also, they have introduced that if you and I decide we don't want to join the plan, there will be a fine of at least $1,000 for singles, and more for families.

Are you saying the best thing to do would be to ignore the whole problem like it has been for a fair amount of time? Maybe it will go away.

    Absolutely not!

Adress the problem rationally. Don't throw (force) the whole world onto the plan.

We need to get healthcare to those who truly need it, but if we don't draw the line somewhere (illegal ailiens, healthy working age people who won't work, etc...) then the cost will be prohibitive for everyone.

I agree with that, I like the idea but I don't like freeloaders. Freeloaders does not mena any specific race, ethnicity, class, etc. Congress qualifies as freeloaders, many rich qualify as freeloaders (don't believe me I'll try to snap a picture of the late model convertable mercedes that parks outside the westminster, md foodbank some time).

    elected

Jilson, just because you were elected, even if you were the only one, is not a license to be a crook. If you have ever run for a public office as i have, you will understand why most of the good people will never run

It's ok to call me harry, harry!

I'm afraid you missed the point of my post. Let me spell it out for you. I posed this question:

"In as much as we elected them, and they are working for us, with all due respect, whose fault is that??

It's OUR fault! We continue to elect people who in large measure, help themselves. If we truly want to change the system, we should be out there mandating things like term limits. We should be mandating that congress live by the same rules that we do. Abolish the free ride given to congressmen for the rest of their lives because they get elected to ONE term.Make them participate in the same health care system that we do, rather than their health care benefit which they now have for life. Don't ***** and moan about it, DO something about it.

It is YOUR DUTY to hold YOUR politicians accountable. If you do not, they will abuse their privileges.

    Not the word I used......

I must apologize for using a word which the system automatically blocks. I can't remember ever intentionally doing that, and had no idea that word was a no-no. The word in question refers to a female canine and rhymes with rich. Up Nawth, we use that expression a lot. I too, know better than to get into political debates.....and that is the source of the problems I alluded to in a previous post.

As a representative democracy we can't shy away from the problems we face. When we do, we get a government that runs us rather than the other way around.

Again, for anyone who was offended, I apologize.

They are not calling them "fines", they are calling them "shared responisibility payments".

I can't post links using the notebook I have today, but I will when I get home.

And yes, I agree. It is B.S.

I hate to say it, but here it is:

The problem is the insurance industry. Not the profits, but their existence. This is elementary, but far-reaching.

Prices are controlled by supply and demand. With a third-party involved, there is a disconnect of this important mechanism.

Patients have barely-regulated demand, and health care providers have barely-regulated supply.

That is the problem we face, seemingly just like every other problem we face: we want something for nothing.

Calling "shared responsibility payments" "fines" is the BS.
