    ABOM Qualifications?

Just curious as to the qualification requirments for the ABOM exam. I am currently a licensed optician in Fl since 91. The requirments in Fl for a license is to pass ABO, NCLE, and pass the state boards...it is not required to maintain hours for ABO and NCLE to keep up the FL state license. My question is (I think I already know the answer) can I take the ABOM without staying current with the hours? Someone told me that you can pay to become current because Fl requires 20 hours CE for every bienium (2years). Thank you for any info you can give me...I am getting bored and need more optics to keep me occupied...must be crazy! Gman :hammer::shiner:

You have to have your ABO through one complete renewel period, so you have to have your ABO for 3 or more years. Then, you have to pass the ABO Advanced. Once you pass that, you submit an application of intent to the ABO that you intend to complete your Master's thesis and you have three years to complete and submit it. It then goes before a review board and they determine if it contributes to the field of opticianry. Good luck!
