    Ontario Registration

    Hi everyone,

I'm qualified an optician from the Czech Republic. I've been working in the field for about 4 years now. I also do refractions and CL fitting. I plan to go for Working Holiday in Canada and I'm thinking about registration in Ontario. Does anyone have experience with the registration as an internationally educated optician? Do you know how long does it take to register? I have all of the information I need but I'm not sure if it's worth to try to register just for one year... Thank you for advice! :)

    Welcome to the Czechs

Moving to a new country is always has it's share of challenges. Mostly it is paper work. You are used to filling in passport applications, visa applications and all the other requirements of a bureaucracies. Getting a opticians license in Canada is just more of the same. However much of it can be done on line and you should have a good understanding before you get on an airplane. Check out the College of Opticians of Ontario web site - look under "international applicants" or something similar.

If you become confused ask again.

I would say don't waste your time. It is highly unlikely to receive registration within one year. The College would have to review and approve the equivalency between their program and the one you are currently registered with. That alone would take years.
