Google "tonic accommodation", pseudomyopia, "accommodative spasm", and...

Maybe an OD can correct me if I'm wrong but some young patients can "improve" vision by exercise.

Of course we're talking a .25 or at most .50. And you must religiously do the exercises.

    Not effective for presbyopia however.

Someone was selling pinhole glasses on television a few years ago as a way to exercise your eyes and throw away your glasses. I don't think it worked. :)

What do you mean it didn't work. The guy made a ton of money. You only have to fool some of the people some of the time.

Looks a little like a devise I saw in an old Sherlock Holmes horrror movie where a lovely young lady looked through some binoculars, when she tried to adjust the focus prongs popped out the back into her brain. Ugly...

The funny thing is, the patients who actually NEED vision training/therapy...those with accommodative problems (spasm, insufficiency, low vergence ranges, etc., etc.) are the ones who react with "Well does my insurance cover it?"...and when told NO, they balk.

The other funny thing, how about the pilot with his Visual acuites superimposed...his first exam form from Walmart...

Do you recall the original TV series "the Wild Wild West" with Robert Conrad and Ross Martin? An ally of the evil Dr Loveless, Dr Demento used a placido disk to hypnotize patients (usually attractive young women) into doing his bidding.

A great four year series and available on DVD.

I did some as a kid...

My Optometrist had my Mom purchase a giant black board, all four of us had Ambliopia, he had us stand infront of the board put our nose on a mark and draw two big circles with each had only focusing on that mark, that s the only one out of several I remember since my arms would get so tired. Another one was pencil to nose. These where done to strengthen the eye muscles since my eye was turning in. I did this after I had surgery on my left eye. I dont think it did much for us.:)

Actually, orthoptic therapy/vision therapy is critical if you want to achieve more than a cosmetic "cure," and are actually looking for a functional improvement (normal VA, stereo, etc.).

Sorry Guy's my sense of hummor is warped this morning. Anyone remember the Steve Martin Movie The Jerk? where they made it rich by inventing the Optigrab? but then everyone that used it went cross eyed and sued? thats what this device reminds me of, not that it would have the same affect, Just wanted to share:):):)
