    Funky lens issue.. any ideas?

    Hi Everyone,

I am hoping someone can advise me on an issue. We just started a finishing lab. As I stated in a previous post a few days ago I have been having issues with my wholesale lab. Your basic issues, power off a bit, they are not shipping my orders together as requested ect. Last week I received a plastic trifocal with scratch coating. When we checked the RX it was perfect, the only issue was that the lens was dirty and had some spots on the bottom. The spots looked like milky water so I figured most of it would be edged off and it would be fine and it was from the surfacing process.

We cut the lenses, check it and they were perfect. During inspection they looked perfect. After giving them to the patient, the next day they returned them and said the OS had a film on it. It is hard to describe because it is not milky or even to the point that you see it. I moved them all around and at some angles or up against a dark background you can visibly see a small difference between the eyes.

I tried soaking them in lukewarm water and rubbing the lens with a cloth diaper, nothing changed other than when in water the difference was more visible. I also tried washing them and nothing changed. The only large difference is when we used a lens wipe cloth it got a bit better.

My thought is that perhaps it is the scratch coating and I need to call my lab. I am just not sure if this is common or if you guys can shed some light and suggestions.

    Thanks!

Possibly fining marks or better called non-fining/polishing marks.

Here's the only answer you really need:

ANY LAB THAT SENDS OUT DIRTY LENSES OBVIOUSLY DID NOT FINAL INSPECT THE LENS FOR SCRATCHES OR ABBERATIONS.

Get another lab. (...and make sure Essilor does not own it.)

I agree about dirty lens from lab but,

Did you try any other solvents (Naptha, Actone, Alcohol, lens cleaner, etc.?). I've seen many things on many types of lenses , both contact and spectacles with many things on them that seemed to be irremovable until I tried the right solvent.

Hey kpshann! Good to see another Portlander on OptiBoard.
I would have to agree with the previous posters. There are too many good labs out there to put up with consistently poor service. Just out of curiosity, is it someone in town? No need to name names, just wondering.

    GOOD LUCK

When checking the RX on the lense in question were the mires sharp or were they fuzzy at the edges. If they are fuzzy a little bit I'm thinking the lense is "gray" meaning it wasn't polished all the way.
