    Allergic to medal earpieces

    Hi,

I was wondering what the options were for patients who can't wear metal earpieces.

We have a patient who bought a pair of glasses (first pair ever) that has metal earpieces and he's having a reaction to it. He would still like to keep those glasses. Is there anything I an do the earpieces? Is there a place to get plastic sleeves for the earpieces?

    Any suggestions would be great!

    Thanks!

Get some clear heat-shrink tubing. Or change them to a titanium frame.

    Another Alternative

Go to hardware, or home depot or lows and get a product called Dip-Cote.

Dip temples hang up to dry a couple times and problem solved.

Another alternative is to send them to Hilco and have the whole frame coated.

Coat the inside of the temple with clear finger nail polish. If it comes off after a while, reapply.

That is the goo what the cave men used on their frames because nothing for that prupose existed.

You need something that is permanent, seals from the inside as well as from the outside, sticks to just about anything like plastics as well as metals, and is anti allergenic.

Like Oceanboy said, it works on temples, nose pads, metal rims and plastics that turns white from acid skin perspiration or secretion.

    check it at: http://optochemicals.com/products/info_frame_protec.htm

To be proper................................... The piece that goes from the hinge to behind the ear, mounted to a spectacle frame front is called:

    a "Temple"

and the part of the temple that is bent down, is

    the "Temple Tip"

and the plastic cover that goes over the nd of the temple is:

    a "temple tip cover"

    :hammer:

I will have to think about that....................all day long

Now today. that we have our holiest Day of the summer here in the beautiful Province of Quebec.
The "Quebec National Day ", renamed from "St.Johns the Baptist Day" for the last 100 years, it is the law that nobody is allowed to work today.

Any business owner that has employees working, or works himself and gets caught, for example a competitor squealing on him, gets fined $ 5,000 per person working in the business.

So everybody is closed down in the "Belle Province" of Canada" and can get into the Beer tonight and watch hundreds of fireworks tonight.

This means even opticians, that can differentiate between a shaft and a temple tip.................as well as the ones that can't have to take the day off and celebrate. Even the buses are on Sunday schedule, and you might not even make it to work. We have been legislated not to work but still get paid. This is like living in heaven.

However next Wednesday is the Canadian National Holiday which has no such legislation, so many businesses will either close next Monday or Friday to make a long weekend and work July 1.

Does this come in a barrel. I have a few customers that need to be coated, real dips.

Okay, ya go away for a few years and you're a caveman. Guess I'll go to work for GEICO.

Seriously, I am just getting back into the business after being out of it for 11 years, and this board is helping old synapses come back online and presenting me with new solutions to old problems, new problems, and old solutions to problems I had forgotten about.

We DID used to use the shrink tubing on the "temples" as well, when we could wrestle it away from the dinosaurs.
