Which Will Happen First?

Essilor in retail, or Chinese upping prices. (Please, no offense DOC). The time is getting closer and closer for both. Last time I checked, you could still get a pair of jeans at Walmart for eight dollars. Most "faded glories" are as good as the other brands, better that the JC penny "Arizona" brands. You have to be careful though. I have seen a few pair of 'faded Glorys' with fewer belt loops. Gotta watch for that.
Which will happen first? It is not a matter of if but when.

China will up prices first, because GDP in that nation is rising.

If Essilor were to get into retail, it would have already done it. We have been talking about it for 15 years. A company that good does not move that slow. It is just threats shot out at on this board, because Essilor competes with a few of them.

Yes, if you give it enough time and Essilor is still around, in maybe 40 years it will go into retail. Like I said, these same people were saying that the company would do it 15 years ago.

They just need to aquire a couple more lens manufacturers.

If Essilor owns all the lens manufacturing, they won't need to go into retail as they'll be supplying every lens in America to every retail store and chain.
I just don't see them going into retail and alienating all their customers. Can you imagine LC suddenly dropping Essilor and working out a deal with some anonymous Chinese lens manufacturer?
Err.. well THAT might actually happen!:D
Especially if Essilor goes retail.
