With budget deficits soaring and President Obama pushing a trillion-dollar-plus expansion of health coverage, some Washington policymakers, as reported in todays Washington Post, are taking a fresh look at a money-making idea long considered politically taboo: Do you support a national sales tax?

My sister in law lived in England for 13 years and they have something like that there. There is a value added tax of about 17% added to everything/almost everything. It's built right into the price. I don't like the idea very much.

The proposed national sales tax is in addition to the income tax. There is also a proposal for a VAT tax in addition to the national sales tax and the income tax. When we combine these new taxes with the future inflation I am afraid that we are all going to find ourselves with a lifestyle not recognizable today.

A sales tax isn't fair! People who spend more would pay more in tax. Should these people be penalized just because they have the ability to spend more than lazy, non-spenders?

This is would be very confusing. What would we have to do? Would we need to carry our last years tax forms everywhere to prove we made less than $130,000 exempting ourselves?

They are working on an instant deoxyribonucleicacid reading machine. For use with credit cards and credit approval and such. Also for bail bonds and parole control. It does not even need a sample, just touch against skin. Sure, why would the IRS not use this technology as well. Hey! No account numbers needed.
