    Michael DiSanto

I am very sad to report to my colleagues and friends here on Optiboard that Michael Disanto passed away this morning. I received a call from Jennifer around 9:15 asking that I inform Mike's friends and colleagues.

Mike DiSanto was my friend, and a wonderful educator who taught thousands over the years. He made dull topics come alive, and all enjoyed the humor he introduced into each lecture. His written works helped to train countless future Opticians, and his memory will be with his colleagues all across this industry forever. He is truly missed.

I do not have information about the arrangements yet, but will post something as soon as I know. For now, please keep Mike's wonderful family in your prayers.

I had the privilege of listening to his lectures many times over past 15 years. He was one of a kind with a talent that no one I've seen could touch. The hours went by too fast while he was speaking which is saying a lot when most of those hours spent in CE are considered torture! What a jewel.....I will miss him. Prayers to his family and those who knew him.

I'm sorry to hear this. We are all richer with the knowledge he shared with us over the years. He will be remembered by future generations of opticians. I pray that his family can find some kind of peace knowing how he touched and educated many of us, and those to enter the field in the future. God bless you Mike.

Memorial day will be marked by the loss of such a great leader in our industry. I had never heard him speak or read his book, but I knew a lot of good people that were inspired by him. I felt like I knew him through the knowledge he shared, and future opticians will more than likely be influenced by his teachings. He was a great man with many accomplishments to celebrate.

About a year ago he came into town to lecture and I swore I wasn't going to miss him this go round so I emailed him and tried to set something up with him and he responded like we had been friends for decades. I would have liked to have bought him a drink and picked his brain a bit. These are the kind of folks that invigorate me, even with all his accomplishments he could have stood as a giant, yet he chose to stand beside you as a colleague, truly a classy guy.

So sorry to hear this. I attended CE classes given by Mike several times. He always gave you useful information in a very enjoyable and entertaining way.

He made a huge impact on training in our industry. I used his original TOPS book to teach dozens of people preparing for the NOCE.

And he was a genuinely nice guy.

    My friend

As my friend as well as colleague, I will miss Mike. I remember so many years ago, thinking was a spectacular speaker and educator he was. I cherish the fact that he was one of my co-authors on the Advanced Opticians Tutorial.

An interesting fact. Some of you may know that Mike's birthday is July 4th. Born on the day of celebration of the birth of our nation, and died on the day when we honor those who died fighting for our freedom. That has to speak for something. :)

Mike, we will always love you and miss you. Your legacy will be great.

Had to log back in for this one.

I had the pleasure of debating Michael on two occasions - nothing formal just very nice discussions on A/R and the sales presentation. Michael was always the utmost professional and will be missed.

    God Speed Michael.

I spoke with Mike just a couple of weeks ago and ordered his training suite for my office. Even then he sounded well and had a positive outlook despite knowing that no treatment existed for him.

He and his family are in my prayers and I hope to honor his memory by sharing the teachings in his TOPS materials with current and future staff.
