First of all, I apologize if this is deemed to cross the line for a consumer post. After reading the rules, I feel like this question falls into a grey area. I'm asking here because I'm not sure where else I should go. If anyone can recommend a talented dispensing optician in my area (near downtown Houston, TX) I would love to know, because I'm not very happy with the providers I've dealt with lately.
I recently purchased new glasses at a local shop. I paid for Seiko 1.67 SV lenses with grey transitions, AR, and edge polishing. The RX in my worst eye is -4.5 -1.25 x 125. The frame eye size is 48 and the bridge is 18mm.
My new lenses are a lot thicker than an older pair, same Rx and *larger* eye size, with generic 1.61 lenses. Not just at the edge but in the center too.
If I had to guess, I'd say these new lenses are hard resin with 2.0 CT. The edge thickness is at least 6mm and the CT is definitely not even close to 1mm. According to one of the calculators online, the Seiko 1.67 lens (MR-10) in this frame with my Rx should be closer to 4.5mm. Or does the material come in other thicknesses, and if so, what's the point of such a thing?
Is it possible this was done deliberately by the lab in order to make the lens easier to groove for a semi-rimless frame? Should I have received a refund for the difference in lens cost if the lab indeed did this?
I wanted to ask somewhere else before I potentially insult the optician.
Again, if there is a better place to ask about this (before I go back to the dispensing optician) I'd love to know about it. The glasses are fine but I feel like I paid for a premium product that I did not receive. Thanks in advance for any help.
