There was a time when every lab had a bucket of gasoline. What was it used for?

There was a time when corset or collar stays were commonplace on the bench. What were they used for?

Used as generator coolant to make more spectacular PGX flare-ups!

    I'm guessing pitch removal also...

We used to use them to draw axis line conecting the lensometer dots. India ink and old fashioned broad pen nibs.I've never seen gasoline in a lab.

Harry excels in all things optical. But, no gas in the office? You must have catered to the carriage trade. What did you use, fine 100 year old Cognac?

Let's hear from some lab people out there. I maintain only a lunatic would have had a can of gas in an optical lab. In the old days for sure with all the guys smoking in the back room. With universal solvents and mineral spirits why in heavens name would anyone have used gasoline. Thumbs down on anyone who did. Never saw any gas in any lab I hung around, and I can promise you it was considerably more than one or 2.
