    Sad News For Texas Opticians

I regret that it falls to me to inform you all of the passing of a legend in the Texas optical industry. Jim Seebach of Town and Country Optical in Odessa passed away on December 5th after a brief battle with cancer.

Jim was more than my Vice President on the TOPS board of directors. He was my friend and role model. He could always be counted on for wise counsel, a kind word, and often a heartfelt laugh. Many of us revelled in his stories about "the good ole days".

Jim dedicated more than 30 years of his life to his profession. Many of those years were also spent trying to improve the industry as a whole. He volunteered unselfishly to serve on legislative committees and state opticianry boards.

With thanks for his contributions and saddness for his passing,

    C. Carol Dupaquier
    President, Texas Ophthalmic Professionals Society

Thanks for letting us know about Jim Seebach's death. I only know Jim from his posts on OptiBoard but always valued his opinions on topics. The one thing that came through in all of his replies about optical topics was how much he cared about opticianry and how much he cared about how he, personally, practiced opticianry.

I am glad Jim was able to enjoy some time with his new grandson for a little while. He must have been one tough guy - never complained about what ailed him once publicly; he just shared his pride in his new family member.

Well I was having a pretty good day up until now...

Jim was a friend of mine, but I hadn't heard from him in a couple of months perhaps that's why. He use to come through here on his way home from Corpus Christy and would stop and visit. I knew he had some heart problems but honestly knew nothing of his bout with cancer and he never spoke about it or his health condition with me.

He and I did a lot of legal wrangling with regard to the Texas Two Door Law and came up with some pretty good ideas on the subject. I'm sorry that I didn't meet him sooner.

Jim is and always will be a good man. I wonder what will happen to Town & Country now? I need to run up there and find out. I know he had a good following so I wonder if they will keep it going?

Anyway, I'm going to go cry now. Bye.

Carol. Thanks for letting us know, Jim was indeed a fine representative of our profession, we took the OAA refracting course together and worked with COAT together, and he was very dedicated to the opticians here in The Republic! Al.

I am so sorry to hear that. I only knew Jim from his posts but he was a good poster. That is really sad I always hate hearing of someone's passing. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family and friends.
