Our Lions clubs are starting to work with the Sure Sight autorefractors for screening kindergarten and 1st grade children. Any feedback would be appreciated on pros and cons of this instrument. Thanks

It's fine for screening - it'll ballpark sphere and cyl for you. I've used one on several thousand people on mission trips. I don't think your purpose is scripting, but it's not accurate enough to script from, unlike the Retinomax 2.
If you use it, what you gonna do with the readings? The OD board isn't gonna let you use it without and OD to sign off. The MD's won't let you do this because of the liability of undiagnosed disease. Just block each eye and see if they can see reasonably well, if not refer them to an OD or an OMD.
Unless of course you can find and OD or OMD that will participate in the screenings as a public service (you can't afford them as day labor).

I live in a state where free vision screenings by OD's are illegal. The exception written into the law is for InfantSee. They believe it would lead to false screening outcomes to generate patient traffice.
You mean the O.D.'s have got the legislature to make it illegal for them to do charity work? Do tell....
