Gradal Individual is the individualized version of the GT2.
Sola HDV is the individualized version of the Solamax.
Gradal Individual is the individualized version of the GT2.
Sola HDV is the individualized version of the Solamax.
Individual has been around a lot longer than the GT2 so I doubt it....
I have been told that the Individual is a total new design from the original. I think Darryl Meister should know if this is true.
Here is what I was told from Zeiss.
The Individual is actually called the Zeiss Individual II- The old Individual is gone. The design and lab process is different. The Gradual is also only to be used with the GT or GT2.
For Marketing they are just calling it the Zeiss Individual.
Hope that helps
Also- If you are not a large chain- Stop selling the Sola products. They will be sold by the chains soon- Do not compete with that- Stay with the Zeiss brand.
As what i know, Individual is a custom made lens according to the Vertex Distance, Pantoscopic tilt, wrap and Rx. but GT2 is a lens that compensated the Rx to the least distortion. Individual lens has a longer history compare Gt2 so i don't think that Individual is the individualize version but they may something similar technology or software of the manufacturing.
From what I've heard the Individual 1.5 & 1.6 are still the same lens as they always were. The 1.67 were changed for a new version around Q3 last year, at least here in Europe anyways.
The original was called Gradal Individual. Thr free-form surface was on the back or front depending on the power; probably front on the high plus. Power range was substantial, -17.00 to +10.00 up to a 6 cyl, with two corridor lengths. The new lens is free-form on the back only, with a restricted power range of -10.00 to +6.00, and a 4 cyl max, with the corridor length determined by frame size, and may not be user selectable.
It would probably be more accurate to say that they are different designs, although some of the knowledge that went into the GT2 design may have transferred to the new Individual (Frame Fit?).
Probably closer to the Sola One. It has a varariable corridor length, and is optimized for Rx and POW.Sola HDV is the individualized version of the Solamax.

Ah, now we're getting somewhere!
Robert et al.:
Have you noticed there is a "Comfort 360"? What that conjures in my mind is the intended Comfort design delivered as unadulterated as possible to all wearers.
The key to this is "intended design".
My big black box right now is understanding not customization, but the age-old problem of understanding the intended design.
It seems you can cull from various posts, mostly by the good Darryl, that Sola's HDV is indeed a close cousin of the SolaOne (a lens I do not understand for lack of information) and SolaMax (less obscure). He called it a "platform" in an old post and he mentioned the near-intense design priorities.
So, is the "platform" for the (new) Individual the GT2, or at least a very close cousin?
Is it even technically possible compare GT2 designs even to itself, within the GT2 parameters, plus vs. minus, base curve A vs. B, etc? How internally consistent is it? Do we even want it to be?
Is the GT2 design just a general philosophy of high and wide, with a respectable 180 but somewhat harder periphery?
Finally, what is the Individual?
Can an individual possess traits that never change and/or are immune to change? If individuality is ...oops, wrong forum.:o
There are characteristics that define the fundamental design goal- ease of adaptation, forgiveness in positioning, distance or near friendly, and so on. Moreover, some lenses just feel better in front of my eyes, although they otherwise perform in a similar fashion. I assume that's due to more attention given to the binocular vision, along with some degree of blind and double blind testing. It makes for a more refined visual experience, and although it costs more to produce a lens with this level of refinement, I'm willing to pay for it, and so are most of my clients. You should too.

Well, Robert, thanks for posting.
I suppose that I've abstracted this to a ridiculous level.
We're supposed to, I guess, buy into a company and a design philosophy that is rarely stated in any quantitative manner.
Perhaps it cannot be quantified.
Perhaps it's "striving after the wind".
Perhaps they would have to kill us if they ever let us know.:hammer:
Anyone else having to wait sometimes over three weeks for their Zeiss Individuals? Why can't they seem to get them out in a timely manner?:hammer:Sometimes, I get them in less than a week and others they can't tell when I will recieve them
drk,
In the last sentence of my post I spoke of "you". Just to be clear, I meant the collective "you", not the individual "you", or just you.:)
IMO, the only way to be sure of lens performance is to personally wear the lens in a higher Add, let's say >1.75D. Although there's a fair amount of overlapping in functionality between many of the PAL designs, there are diferences that become readily apparent when the Add is 2.50. With the tail end of the boomer population ready to hit that power in the next five to ten years, we'll want to be at the top of our optical knowledge so that we can better understand their needs. Might be a good time to make sure you have a quinquagenarian or sexagenarian on your staff who can try out all of the lenses you fit.
BTW, I'm glad to see your back. Hopefully the "obnoxious one" will one day learn when to just shut up.

drk, it is my understanding that the new Individual is completely different than the old. Newer design, processed in the US as opposed to the old one being done in Germany and making the best use of the newer generators that apply the design to the lens. More patents and the like.

Drk,
Lenses mentioned were:
SolaOne
SolaMax
GT2
Comfort
Make your own determinations of the designs rom the objective data. The closer the colors and gradations the harder the design.

Harry, that kicks @ss!
What is that stuff?
Harry,
Can you put an Autograph II and a Indivdual up as well?

wow thats great stuff! post some more!!
Plano +2.00 add as Karen mentioned, the dark blue is the plano and the pruple is the +2.00 and the gradient of colors is the progression in power from one to the other. The graphics show maps in incremetns of 0.12D and were created by the Rotle Class Plus system www.rotlex.com .
As for the request of
Autograph II
Individual
Definity
The cost of these lenses is prohibitive on my salary and although the companies seem to think of these designs highly, they have not been willing to put their lenses where their marketing is. (ie money where their mouth is)
