Jim, what can you tell us about the new Transitions SOLFX lens being introduced in June? As a dyed in the wool DEFINITY Transitions wearer who would rather golf than eat , how is it different from what I have now?

SPECIALTY LENS PARTNERS WITH TRANSITIONS TO ADD POLARIZED PHOTOCHROMIC SUNLENS TO iRx® POLAROID® LINE
New iRx® Polaroid® Transitions® SOLFX™ Sunlenses Offer Enhanced Visual Performance for Outdoor Activities
http://www.optiboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34574
Jim: About these new SOLFX lenses, and in particular, the iRx Polaroid ones.. it almost reads like there is a darkening response to light in the visible wavelengths, which would make them useful when driving an automobile. Like the Drivewear product. Or am I reading something into the press release that is not accurate(?)
Bottom line: Do these SOLFX lenses respond to UV only or to visible light only--or both?

Hi Harry,
Last week at the Transitions Championship for Healthy Sight, The Transitions® SOLFX™ lens brand was launched. Currently, we have Oakley® Transitions®SOLFX™ lenses and Younger DriveWear® Transitions®SOLFX™ lenses. The new SOLFX products will be announced by their manufacturers first with details of performance coming at that time....for now, all I have is the Essilor and Specialty Lens releases that went out with the brand annoucement.....I saw both last week and they look impressive.
Essilor of America will be offering DEFINITY FAIRWAY™ Transitions® SOLFX™ lenses – a new progressive sunwear product designed to meet the unique visual demands of golfers – through optical laboratories and eyecare professionals in June.
oCombines the patented DUAL ADD® 2.0 Technology and GROUND VIEW ADVANTAGE™ of DEFINITY® lenses with the advanced photochromic technology of Transitions® SOLFX™ sunlenses to provide golfers with the right color and darkness for optimal visual performance in varying light conditions.
oIn a golf study, players preferred DEFINITY lenses 7:1 during course play – reporting less peripheral distortion, a 30 percent wider intermediate zone and smoother transitions between distance, intermediate and near vision.
oThe lenses will change from amber to a darker brown outdoors, improving contrast and depth perception to allow colors to help golfers see the contour of the greens and better see the ball.
oLenses come with Crizal Sun™ Mirrors to reduce back side reflections, and for improved scratch resistance and cleanability.
and for Specialty Lens...I believe this is an April release.
Transitions Optical is partnering with Specialty Lens Corporation to add new iRx® Polaroid® Transitions® SOLFX™ sunlenses to its prescription lens offering.
oCombines the polarized technology of iRx Polaroid with the advanced photochromic technology of Transitions® SOLFX™ sunlenses to offer enhanced visual performance for outdoor activities.
oWill be available soon in two colors and in single vision 1.50 plastic.
oThe ash gray to darker gray lens transmits colors evenly and allows for true color recognition in bright light and heavy glare situations such as fishing and running, driving, rock climbing and reading outdoors.
oThe caramel brown to darker brown lens improves contrast and depth perception in situations such as motorcycling, fishing, golfing, hiking and mountain biking.
I am leaving for the Vision Council meetings and VEE tomorrow.
have a great day,
Jim

Jim:
Does this mean that you are close to offering transitions in the old B&L shooters lens that went from yellow-amber to dark brown and amber-matic that did the same thing?

Hey Rinsie,About these new SOLFX lenses, and in particular, the iRx Polaroid ones.. it almost reads like there is a darkening response to light in the visible wavelengths, which would make them useful when driving an automobile. No, the only Transitions SOLFX lenses with photochromic compounds that are active in the visible light range are in DriveWear Transitions SOLFX lenses.
Hi Chip,Jim:
Does this mean that you are close to offering transitions in the old B&L shooters lens that went from yellow-amber to dark brown and amber-matic that did the same thing?
Chip
Yes, this very well could happen. This is the crux of the Transitions SOLFX branding, task specific products not covered by our everyday core products of clear to gray and brown lenses.
We have the technology and our partner lens manufacturer's can choose or even develop with us the color space that enhances the wearers visual acuity.
We are in negotiations with many manufacturers that want specific Transitions SOLFX lens products.
It is a very interesting time around here!
