This is mostly for me, John, Ian and Clive, since we hadn't heard of any of Pete's :)

thank god I can finally vote on I poll of this nature, It has got to Only fools and horses with Del boy and plonker Rodders.

My second favourite would be Father teds Christmas special. Hilarious and it is filmed in part in the village I live in.

I like the Father Ted special, featuring the largest lingerie department in Ireland :)

Which parts were filmed in your village? Is the parochial house there? Do you host an annual Lovely Girls competition?

What Americans need to realise is that British Xmas TV is exactly the same every year, to the point where we can't celebrate properly until we have studiously avoided watching Police Academy 5 for the billionth time. It's a bizarre tradition of ours.
They don't show Monty Python at Christmas, though. They show it every day on UK Gold.
The Eastenders special is always fun, with someone crying alone outside the Vic, whilst everyone else is happy inside. Other TV highlights include:
    * A Superman film (my money's on Superman 2 this year)
    * The episode of One Foot In The Grave filmed in the Algarve.
    * Denis Norden's It'll Be Alright On The Night number 37.
    * Noel Edmonds giving expensive presents to sick children, who probably would have preferred a kidney dialasis machine to a Playstation 2
    * A Have I Got News For You Christas special, featuring Paul Merton being un-festive.
    * BBC2 will show It's A Wonderful Life at some hideously inconvienient time, and then wonder why no-one watched it.
    * Channel 4 will show Child's Play - Bride Of Chucky, just to show how trendy they are.
    * They will also show lots of programmes about lesbian prostitutes. (But they do that all year round)
    * And they will show Four Weddings and a Funeral, because the flatmate died.

So now there's no need for any Brits reading this to buy a Radio Times this year :)

The largest lingerie store is Dunnes Stores and that was filmed 8 miles away from me. The parochial house is about 5 mins drive. The set is actually in Britain. Lovely Girls has been heard of as well as Best dressed Grandma, International Stone throwing Competion's, Hairy *** competition. then you have your sheaf throwing competions, womens turf throwing, Wellie throwing, horse shoe throwing, Race nights and a lot more.

When ted And dougal were singing my lovely horse, their "video" was shot in our village, also when they were racing the rabbits, many encounters with "I shot Jr" tom. Any out door scene was shot within a 20 mile radius of where I live.

P.s the censored bit refers to one's rear end

What town do ye live in that the shows are set in?

I wish they would swop superman for more Jim Davidson and the likes

To my knowledge, the only thing filmed in Rochdale was Steve Coogan's/Paul Calf's "Three Fights, Two Weddings and a Funeral". The scene where Pauline and Fat Bob come out of the registry office is Rochdale Town Hall, and the nightclub that Pauline goes to for her hen night is the now defunct Bojangles. I used to drink in there all the time when I was younger, because....
    A) They would let me in from being 16 years old,
    B) It was 50p to get in (an important consideration when one is 16 and with no source of income)
    C) On Thursdays, you got a free cocktail because it was 'Ladies Night'
    D) It was the only nightclub at the bottom of the hill, and some (most) nights, I wasn't physically capable of getting up the hill to the nicer clubs.

Obviously, it was a total dive, and the kind of place where Pauline Calf really would drink.

Hey guys! I don't hear anyone mentioning Mr Bean.

He goes down in our family as one of the best.

Some years ago he did such a funny Xmas and N.Y.Eve programme.

    I'd give him my vote.

Mr. Bean is funny, but I also use to laugh hard at 'One Foot in The Grave'. We watch a fair amount of BBC America at our house. My wife really enjoys 'Trading Spaces' and those series shows like such as 'Keeping Up Appearances'.

    Maria,
How could you forget the film that HAS to be watched every xmas without fail? Jason and the Argonauts.
This film has been known in my family for years and years and years as compulsive viewing for xmas, re-named. Jason and the Piggin Argonauts.:p Anne.

    Question I'm Surprised at .........

I'm Surprised at the fact that neither of the mentors of my British Apprenticeship thought to involve me in this thread.I would have thought it required reading for me.
Last night after coming home from a holiday party I tuned into our public Television station to find Black Adder and Baldric playing a spoof on "A Christmas Carol" It was hilarious...and by far my favourite British Christmas special.(also the only one I've seen ....but it wasn't listed above so I didn't vote) I have also seen Father Ted with Ian when he was with us last summer but it wasn't a xmas special so I couldn't vote for him either!I wish I had seen this thread earlier! My mentors would say its probably my fault for not paying better attention.

OK who watched "Only fools" then, I wish that they had'nt bothered as it was no where near as good as the old ones.
As far as the tv went i think it has been very poor this christmas.

The first half of only fools was Boring but once Rodders and his missus started Dressing up as That Crowe fella and the one from the bill. I thought Del on the J Ross show was hilarious.

overall Tv on the British and American Channels we have here was not great. The biggest laugh came from The Irish version Of Millionanire. They paired up Choir boy Daniel O'Donnell with hells "angel" Sinead O'Conner. She would not stop Cursing and Swearing, poor old Dan was getting More and more red in the Face.

As for Ireland being a little nation: it may be true but we are large in Spirit, have hearts of gold and can talk the Hind legs off a donkey.

In the world cup Korea and Japan next summer ye will see that us Irish are a force to Reckoned with :bbg: :bbg: :bbg:
