    Illegal Tints

GREENVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - State police have ticketed an upstate New York man for driving more than twice the 65-mph speed limit on an interstate highway. Troopers said a 21-year-old man was clocked doing 137 mph on I-84 on Tuesday. He was pulled over in the westbound lanes near Exit 2 in the town of Greenville, on the New Jersey border 60 miles northwest of New York City. Troopers said the man was driving a 1993 Honda Civic.

The man was ticketed for speeding, reckless driving and having vehicle windows with illegal tint.

He's due to appear in Greenville Town Court on Feb. 25.

Yes, there are illegal tints on some vehicles. Think about this, take a gray 35%. May be nice on a sunny day. What about in the middle of the night?

Illegal tints are also a hazard to the police. If they can't see inside the car, they could be at risk during a traffic stop.

How about a 40% mauve gradient? Now that should be illegal!

In GA, the tint can't be red or Amber and must allow more than 32% of light in. The reason is so that a cop can't be shot through the window while approaching the vehicle

    My Ridgeline is illeagal......

My Ridgeline is illeagal in the Commonwealth of Virginia because of the tinted side rear windows.....or at least one was ticketed for that. The case was being fought and I don't know how it came out but the vehicle is stock. The reason is definitely for police protection but I wasn't aware that it covered the
    side windows as well.

I think most people here in Florida paint there windows black.

As far as 137MPH in a civic, I think this guy might win a fight in court over that. I can barely get my Harley up too 130mph. I want to see this guy timed on a drag strip. That cannot be a stock engine in there.

Here, if you go 50km over the speed limit, you get a criminal charge, lose your license for two weeks, and pay a $2000 fine.

That's what I'm thinking, I'd go to court and dispute the accuracy of the radar gun in a case like this and I'd be more than willing to let the judge drive my vehicle down a steep hill with hi octane gas if he thinks a 1993 Honda is going 137mph.

We had a 1991 Honda Accord that I got to 120 MPH and chickened out. But it really didn't have anything else to give. Another 17 mph? Not too likely and it was an Accord, not a Civic which has a smaller engine.
