    Made in China frames

Some people commented about China made frames. They don't "trust" the frames. Unfortunately, most of the frames in my store are made in China. The only frames that are not made in China is Ray Ban (there is still one or two Ray Ban frame made in China). How do you politely tell people it's ok to buy made in China frames?

Tell them that even the garlic, drywalls, plumbing supplies, coffee machines, are made in China and soon also in India.

European frame manufacturers moved the production including the machinery to China a few years back, because of cheaper labour.
These days it is buy chinese frames or make your own.

You don't. They either have an issue with things made in China or they don't ask. Most of my customers are somehow tied to the auto industry and very few ask where a frame is made. They already know most of them are made in China just like most everything else they buy. By not asking they absolve themselves form the guilt I guess. If they do ask for a frame made in the US I tell them I have none but I do have several European made lines. Sometimes that clinches the sale.

What a great selling opportunity! Show them your non-china product (along w/ the price) and have them put their money where their mouth is!

Also, I saw the RayBan ophthalmic line last week. (just for grins:D) and I'd venture to guess that 80% of it is made in China. When I mentioned it to the rep, she said, "Oh, I never even noticed.

Correct me if I'm wrong on that, as I just looked over it quickly.

Having worked for a manufacturer (not in this industry), we had some items made overseas. The key to it was WE controlled the quality. If we thought they were were using sub standard materials, we told them. In that case, it woldn't have matter where in the world we had it made, they were the labor.

Wouldn't this still hold true about frames? I can't possibly believe that everyone that comes in looking for non-China made frames is so pro-fair labor practices. Especially because if that were the case, these folks would/should do more to boycott the number of sweat shops stil operating within our own borders.

Amazingly enough, we originally wanted an American company to make one of the items (it was flag themed) unfortunately for the American company, the quality of the work from Asian company far outdid the American.

Remember when "made in Japan" meant "cheap"? Now Toyota and Honda are considered top notch.

Times they are changing. Hyundai used to also be junk, now it is a player.

Fifteen years ago when I first got into dispensing, it was easy. Made in Europe meant good, china meant poor quality.

Now it is hard to tell the difference.

    Maybe.

10 years ago, industrial equipment from eastern Europe was junk. Now much (not most) of the industrial equipment from "American" manufacturers is actually made in Poland, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Czech Republic, etc. Good quality bearings, motors, gearing, etc is coming from there.

optical quality is based on design, parts, and machines. The latter two are the processing, the "made in part." So, a machine in China works just as well as the same machine in Iowa.
