    Measurement confusion...

As taught, I measure a progressive from the pupil to the bottom of the lens, but wouldn't that put the intermediate portion in front of the eye? I thought that the patient should look through the distance portion by default and adjust their eyes as need for computer and reading situations. I'm confused!

The patient is not looking through the intermediate area, the manufacters start the intermediate area below the fitting cross. :)

Are you new to the business? And welcome to Optiboard!

    Thumbs down

Clearly, though, not everyone here is happy to respond to a question from a new Optician. First few responders were rather rude!

It's a good question too. It was a question I always wondered about when I was newly Licensed, but was always too embarassed to ask!

I was originally taught to fit that way, but experience reared it's head and now I fit 2mm lower.

And we do get a lot of consumers asking questions here posing as opticians, so there's some concern at first when a new poster shows up. Don't fret about it, they will be a valuable source of info.

I also fit about 2mm lower. I have found that I have few non-adapts. Honestly, I wear my own progressives that way, too.

I fit on, but I recheck in a standing relaxed position. Never had to lower a pal yet. Now I have screwed up my share of line type but always because of some rudimentary mistake I should have caught before sending them to the lab.
In fact, I don't think I have ever had a proble with a line type when I forgot to measure and the lab called. I asked for the B and faked it. So far I have gotten away with it every time.
