    George Harrison - R.I.P.

I was saddened to hear the news today about George Harrision's death from cancer. He was my favorite Beatle and is truly one of the masters of Pop lead guitar.

The youngest Beatle and the most quiet, he wrote what is arguably the most beautiful love song ever, "Something".
He pioneered the concept of the charity rock concert and introduced our generation to Eastern religions, music and culture. He will be greatly missed.

My mother always said if you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all...

So, the most thoughtful tribute I can think of for Mr. Harrison is this- I vow to refrain from making a deragatory comment about the Beatles for the next 24 hours (you have no idea how challenging this will be), starting....... now.

Stick out tongue Okay Pete, I'll jump in!

I like the Beatles just fine. Do I think they defined my generation or anything else for that matter? No. But then, I'm one of those cynical people who considers music a very important part of life for the sake of the beauty of it. If I want polital, social or religious commentary I go to church or what passes for news media. Music is my entertainment. Who was it that said: science and math might be what makes the life work but the arts are what makes it worth it? That said, I'm sure his death and life has different meanings to different people. For me, it's pause to once again think of the frequent untimely deaths to cigerette smokers, of which I am one. Perhaps that will be his greater legacy.

"I don't deny that there should be preists to remind men that they will one day die. I only say it is necessary to have another kind of preists called poets to remind men that they are not dead yet." G.K. Chesterson

John and George were extremely gifted as musicians and poets. The world is a lesser place without them.

I agree with you Steve. My mom called me this morning and told me the sad news. Wow it just really made me feel really bad. I mean the news of anyone dying is terrible, but gosh that was one of the Beatles. One thing is for sure it certainly makes you remember no one is immortal. Very sad day for those of us who respected and admired him.

What a sad day indeed, yet another Beatle gone.
A very talented guy, sensitive in his music and never pushing himself.

I wonder if I'm the only Optiboarder who met the Beatles?

Now I'll clarify that statement, I passed them in a corridor at the EMI Abbey Road studio complex in 1964.

I played guitar with a folk/pop group at the time and we were recording with a 30 piece orchestra in Studio 1, they had been working in Studio 3.

I think that was one of the most exciting (music) days I've ever had, my music career has gone downhill ever since then.

George's music together with that of the rest of the Beatles will live on forever.

    It's good classic stuff.
