    Confused Discount labs

Hey All- As I'm sure you are all aware, Times are tough! Where is a good place for deep discounts on optical lenses? I would like to find CHEAP essilor or close, as well as single vision lenses. Any hints for making it in tough times?
    Thanks :shiner:

Get them from Nassau, which is also owned by Essilor....................

Any hints for making it in tough times?

    1) Buy uncoated and untreated lenses and do all the extras yourself, from scratch resistant to tints and UV.

    2) Buy discontinued frames at a fraction of the original cost, which just about every frame wholesaler has by the load.

    3) Have a sign in your shop window with some lowest starting price on SV, this will attract budget minded customers.

    4) Do not sell down, sell up. Start with your lowest price and then try to sell added benefits, consumers will tell you when you get over budget.

    5) Do not make customers feel bad if they don't want to purchase the most expensive AR, have them buy one from a less expensive independent AR lab.

    6) If you are handy and can do repairs, have sign in the shop window saying so....................this is one of the most important items these days, that you can save some frames or lenses so that they can still be used for a while.

    7) Most important: This recession has been coming for over a year and has started to hit hard, but will not last forever and good times will return.

When people who had a good income and do not have it anymore or even loose their house, they will only purchase the least expensive as in their own mind, it will be only temporary until better times come back.

So you got to change your tune and adapt fast, cut cost and do as much work as you can yourself, get your fingers dirty and do not farm out work you can do yourself. You might even find out that you can actually still make money == by selling for less - lesser cost + some hand work.

There are always some, that have and will make money during a recession and purchase the best and most expensive, and this thread will not affect the opticians or the retailing doctors that cater only to the wealthy.

For optical website searches: You can find 731 optical sites on my listing at: http://optochemicals.com/web_listing.htm

I suggest joining the Professional's Forum. You will find some very interesting and helpful posts about prices and labs.

In terms of cost to performance ratio I'd go with Ideal for frames, Somo for your SV, and Galaxy Optical for the surface jobs. I think I will go ahead and try the Professional's Forum also.

Look for cheaper... but never cut corners on quality. You may get the sale but lose the patient and referals. Don't survive this year only to fail the next.

Blue Jumper No address, no contact...............

I just looked at this site. There is no address and no contact listed, usually one is told that these incognito websites are not to be trusted.

    Absolutely no information on them.

Odd we look to shop for our materials and supplies and frames from "Discount" suppliers but do not wish our establishment to be known as
    a "Discount Optical."

And, of course, we bash patients who do the same thing.

    Lightbulb Discount suppliers

We use the following supplier in Singapore for very rapid and reliable service on 1.56 MC, 1.67 slip coated AR, and 1.74 MC lenses; payment by Paypal or T/T: Hitop. email calvin@hitoplens.com

For high quality frames (Made to order for us with our own label, min order 200 with our own brand on them) and hard coat lenses try muina@o-fei.com.
Delivery is about 2 months to New Zealand as everything is made-to-order, but the price is unbeatable and the good do eventually show up!

We also purchase run-out stock of branded product as suggested elsewhere, and our own fitting lab as well as an ODC lens casting system for low-powered progressives.

    Radius Lab

They are located in Texas and save us 10-20 dollars per job. They offer almost every lens and coating and turn around is good. Their customer service is great and they call you if there is any delay or if the order is not clear of something looks off. PM me and I'll get you their price list and info.
