    Confused Need Suggestion For AR

    Hi,
I am a small retailer at Delhi, India.
Often my customers ask me about the lens brand.
I would like to know which AR coating is best and more durable
    Essilor Crizal A2
    OR
Zeiss Carat Super With Lotutec Coating.( For single vision lens)

here price is almost same for both the brands.

    Please guide me.

    Regards,
    Binod

We don't always have the exact same versions on opposite sides of the world. Also, there might not be one exact always-best-for-every-variety-of-lens solution.

That said, I generally favor Zeiss over Essilor, since I have had more crazing problems with Essilor.

A lot of this depends on the lab doing the work. Some labs are more careful and will get better results, no matter what brand they are using.

...and we prefer Crizal over Zeiss product. It really comes down to a personal choice. Both are great lens options, but I would second that the finishing lab/technician can take a great product and ruin it if edged improperly. If you have access to a live lens product representative, I would suggest contacting them and having them pay you a visit. They can give you the information you'll need so that you can make the best informed offering for your patients. All the best!

Oh, I agree, but he was specifically asking about those two brands.Between them, I favor the Zeiss. After all they invented AR.

We were very disappointed with Zeiss coatings. A lot of flaking. We prefer Crizal.

some would tell you that the flaking never happened and instead, we visualized it because we are brainwashed.

Rinselberg is a very nice gentleman, and super polite, because it actually was not on my page, and he had to look for it in Google.

I just posted the name because I know them for many years...........but it is now posted on my site...........I should be ashamed. :hammer:

I hope you don't mind a newbie butting in here....

I would use the Essilor Crizal Forte (I think you guys are referring to it as avance)....especially since Essilor are guaranteeing it for 2 years no matter what!)

We do have contact with live reps all the time, we just prefer ess products over hoya, thats all. Infact we just had 3 reps come in the other day to give us a little training session on the definity and computer glasses that they are now doing. I am always open to hear other peoples comments or suggestions, I've always thought 2 heads are better then 1. thanks.

I couldn't agree more. This is so true.
Many coatings offer the same properties (hydor, oleo, anti-static). What differentiates these coatings is: quality control, consistency, and environment. I guarantee a coating that is processed under a very controlled environment (air quality, cleanliness, regularly maintained), will yield a far better product. Product will vary greatly within a brand because it will be done under different conditions.

Our lab has also switched from using Zeiss AR to Silor...we're very pleased with the regular Silor AR and the Crizal Avance...not to mention the turnaround can't be beat. Their coating facility is a 15-minute drive from our lab, so we drop off our work at night and it's ready to pick up by the next morning! Prices are decent and we have no shipping charges either. Their premium coat also comes with a protective coating (to prevent slippage in the edger) that comes off easily with either a dry tissue or cleaning solution. It's saved us a ton of money in spoilage!

We'd been having a lot of issues with Zeiss Teflon, especially their stock lenses...50% or more were returned to us because of crazing.
