Super wide multifocal lenses are possible!- but how to commercialise R&D ?

Hi everyone!. Not sure if this is the right forum for this question.

I have done some r&d into MF lens manufacturing and have finally cracked the problem of the narrow corridor.

    http://www.i-optic.com/wide.jpg

I have just released a lens which was based on research done some years ago. The above link will take you to our trial selling of this design. But since then, I have fine-tuned it to near full width intermediate and reading.

I have had some interesting results already. One patient suffered from central vision loss. Still a young man- he had to work to support his family etc... so I tried this electrician with our wide design and bingo! He was able to look past the central vision loss and saw quite clearly, due to the super wide corridor. The there are the usual computing problems and the nagging head turning/stiff neck issues and pheripheral sway issues etc... So I think this lens type may be useful and could become a MF category killer produt.

Anyhow, my current research is much more advaned then the above release and I need some idea on how to best commericialise my lates research.
R&D was and is quite expensive, but nothing when compared to the commercialisation process. So... all clues/suggestions welcome :)

    best regards

Hey Rob, nice to see the Aussie guys leading the way! I would look at trying to get into one of the chain stores in Aus.
Not sure if you have asked or looked at independants or the big guys. Would you look at providing lenses or the design only?

Depending on whether you supply lenses or the design only, I would look at going through one of the chain stores. If you dont want to lose your design, go with the smaller chains like Blink, Merringtons or Paris Miki. But you may need to supply the lenses to them as I am not sure if they have man. facilities. You could also ask one of the independant labs to do these lenses for you (I would try Smyth&Perkins), dont know of any others but there may be many more.
Alternatively go to the bigger chains like OPSM, L&P and Budget who have their own facilities and sell them your design.

Good luck which ever way you proceed, and hope this helped a little!

"R&D was and is quite expensive, but nothing when compared to the commercialization process"

You hit the nail squarely on the head. You have a wonderful opportunity to turn a few million dollars into a few thousand in a very short time. Have you a business plan and financing in place? Has your product been evaluated by an independent lab? You are faced with a monumental task - achieving acceptance in an already crowded marketplace.

You are probably best advised to take your new product to an existing manufacturer and strike the best deal that you can.

If you have the facilities, then you will need to sell the product and your company to the market.
Like rbaker said, get your business plan together and know where you want to go and who you want to target.
Start small, think Big! Go with the smaller independants and small chains. This way you can test your product as well as refine any problems. Then go after the big guys. Or you could just go staright to the bigger groups and sell your design.
