    VSP question

We were processing a VSP claim and it gave us a Non IDC lab choice...we gave them a call and they said we can choose it and use whatever lab we want and we will be reimbursed for lab fees...Does anyone know what the reimbursement is? That could be very good for us since we do our our surfacing we will get paid more from VSP as long as the lens reimbursment is good...

You can always choose the Non-IDC. You aren't supposed to use it very often, unless it is a special or different VSP type plan. For example, VSP administers some of our state medicaid plans. We just pull a stock lens and edge it, then choose the non-IDC lab option when filing the claim.
You would need permission from VSP to do it on a regular basis.
As far as the reimbursment, just ask VSP. They will tell you. You won't be impressed and you won't get rich.

What they told me was that they had alot of complaints about not being able to use your own local lab that may be a non vsp lab and that it did not matter to them if you chose it or not because we would be reimbursed the same as any VSP lab would and that it would be our responsibility to pay our private lab bill from that....

We only use the private lab option when it is necessary ie: the patient "forgot" they had VSP so we already made them. I think we make out better using the VSP labs since we always order premium product. We wouldn't make much of a profit doing it as private lab.
