Sometimes, the North American love for fat, salt, and sugar is largely aquired, and learning to prepare low fat, low salt foods that taste great is a challenge, but can be done. There is NO compromise with removing at least some of the fat and salt, and using healhier alternatives.
Think about the punch garlic and or onion add, without all the fat and salt. Fresh squeezed lemon with fresh ground pepper is a superb combo to add flavor without adding fat and salt. I still love my desserts, but I really enjoy learning new and better ways to eat healthier without sacraficing flavor.
    Bon appetite.

Oh definitely we need to learn to eat better.. and sometimes it is also good to indulge.

I have worked on a few recipes to make some of those sweeter things healthier, such as using whole wheat flour in my oatmeal cookies, along with old fashioned, instead of quick cook oats for a higher fiber content.. and using some more natural forms of sugar, such as molasses instead of processed sugar.

while it still isn't as healthy as a fruit and yogurt parfait, it is better than most oatmeal cookies.

I'm diabetic so we do a lot of diabetic cooking and baking. I do the cooking. The wife does the baking. Also because of my pancreas we have to keep the fat levels low, so we do ALOT with turkey and chicken. Did turkey bacon wrapped chicken breasts the other night.
