    Expiration labels

Food and drinks have expiration dates marked on them. What do you think about marking spectacle lenses with expriation dates? At least one major lens company has the technology to label lenses invisiably, which shows up when the consumer breathes on them. Would this drive more people to return for eye exams when their Rx expires, or is this idea not feasible?

Expiration dates are strictly a commercially inspired concept and totally useless except in the case of things that change chemical composition with time.

In Virginia, a spectacle rx requires an expiration date only when deemed medically necessary. While I understand the arguement for regular eye exams, having the lenses expire seems a little too commercial. We can advise, caution, warn or threaten, but we can only hope that patients are concerned enough about eye health to return for regular exams.

    Redhot Jumper I got one...

How about a fade in concept?? after a year or two, the word expired starts to show up in big red letters on each lens. Can't be washed off. Imagine, when it starts to show through and your friend say's to you,
" Hey Dude, Your expirations are showing:hammer::hammer::hammer:

We could even sell a special "rejuvenator" for eyeglass lenses (actually Mark Away in a fancy bottle) that would "get the red out!"

Or we could just sell lenses with such poor coatings that they need to be replaced in 2 years. Wait, someone else already thought of that.:D

    When did he say that?

Universal health care tends not to pay for glasses or exams here.

I guess I can say that McCain will make glasses illegal, because it will remind him of his boyhood when glasses did not exist.

That's just as true as Chip's statement, along with McCain's 12-point plan to take away your guns.
