    Retinal Camera, tonopen

Anyone have suggestions? The office needs a new tonopen; we've also decided to get a retinal camera.

    Thx in advance.

The iCare tonometer is a nice replacement for a tonopen. We traded ours in. DJ at DIG was helpful, and a lot cheaper than the Canadian supplier.

Retinal camera I can't help too much; we're shopping for one too.

Actually, it's the iCare we decided to return. Just too inaccurate. We've had it for a year, and the readings are inconsistant.

    what about this one:

I think one thing to consider is the additional costs of all the consumables. Tonopen has the little rubber tips, icare has the plastic?? tips, pascal has disposable tips. All of them are expensive when used correctly.

I don't think anyone dislikes the pascal per se, but it takes a bit more practice to do correctly. I believe they still only have the slit lamp-mounted version. A portable one would be nice.

Have you checked out a perkins? They still use drops, but less expensive. Still require a good deal of practice though.

There are two tonopens, the newer design has a slightly larger lcd and may be worth it for presbyopic users :)

I had to learn to use the tonopen Avia (the new one) for my exam last June. It's much more comfortable to hold than the original, I found. In the clinic we use a Perkins and a Goldman.

For the camera, we use a Canon CR-DGi. I find it very user friendly, and once I assure patients that it's not an NCT, it's all good.
