Redhot Jumper No money in anti-slip aids..................

Just had an idea.................went in the back to my testing lab.

Where is a roll of duct tape ? I asked. We found it. Took a few two sided super slippery lens of which we have many, stuck a piece on the front and another one on the back.

Went to edger..................and bingo it works.............no slippage whatsoever.

Now removing the tape ? It came off easy, the adhesion was just the degree and it peels off easy.

I think that just found the lowest cost solution for the poor labs and frustrated opticians that have to do all the redo's for slipped and turned lenses.

However I have no financial connections to the duct tape manufacturers, but maybe should buy some shares at today's low prices if the whole optical world starts using my idea. :hammer:

A roll of shiny grey duct tape.

...................duct tape was originally developed during World War II in 1942 as a water resistant sealing tape for ammunition cases.[1][2] Permacel, then a division of Johnson & Johnson, used a rubber-based adhesive to help the tape resist water and a fabric backing to add strength. It was also used to repair military equipment quickly, including jeeps, firearms, and aircraft because of these properties.

I would think the duct tape would allow torsion. Was there any evidence of this?

Duct tape is not transparent. The tape has to be transparent, because when you line up the blocker, you have to see through it.

Duct Tape works well for rednecks on everything except ducts. Duct tape was origionally named Duck tape.
There is a brand out now that calls itself Duck Tape.

That is a good point.......................I would suggest to cut 2 strips and place them as close as possibe to the marks leaving an open slot to see the marks when blocking. Anyway you can make it go, it works beautiful on those slick surfaces.

Or, you can attach a small piece of the duct tape to the sticky side of the leap pad itself, Then, block the lens as usually and VOILA! You can then smooth out the edges. I have tried this, it works well, and so far, no turning or slippage.

Ineed Chocolate..................good boy, you refined the original idea and made it work.

None of us making any money on this one, but give me the satisfaction that sometimes old remedies that have been around forever are still working tohether with the newest technology. Besides that it just about cost's nothing.

Figer out how many lenses you can do with roll of duct tape at $ 3.60 and how many lenses can be saved form turning off axis.
We better start a new thread on this one in the general forum so everybody can catch on the idea.

I wore plaid flannel before plaid flannel was cool.

Now the suspenders are another story.

Yes, we women have good ideas once in awhile, eh? :) Actually, I have only had to use duct tape once or twice, when I ran out of the regular non-slip pads. I don't use it on a regular basis.
