    Confused Santinelli LE7070 off axis?

..just bought a used Santinelli LE7070. I'm using it with a Nidek CE-1 blocker. I'm finding that my finished jobs are typically off axis by anywhere from 2-6 degrees, but it's not consistent. I've tried some different pads thinking the lens may be slipping. This has not helped. I'm thinking the blocker may be bad, or, god forbid, the edger itself. Has anyone else ever had this problem or know how to fix it?

I don't have a santinelli, but how old are the wheels?? Check the number of cuts on them.

Is the axis off in the same direction on both eyes?

Welcome aveceye, but what does that have to do with a santinelli problem? That would be better posted in the marketplace.

You should be able to visually check the axis off the blocker, (if it's off 2-6 degrees). Draw a (very) strait line across a plano lens and block it up right along the line. Put the lens on grid paper and look at the block alignment.

If it checks out, you are either getting slippage or the edger is cutting off axis. Since you say it varies from 2-6 I would be incline to think you have slippage. If your equiptment is off, it should be consistant in how much off. Personally, I like SecurEdge pads. Zero slippage problems for me. You may want to check the chucking preasure. If it's too light, it may be causing the problem.

Lastly, you say this is all new to you. Could it be operator error? ( no offence)

I ran a Santinelli LE7070 for about 8 or 9 years and never had any trouble with it until the last year of use. Had the same problem with slippage but it only seemed to occur on polycarbonate and especially high minus lenses, also with no consistency. I agree with optical24/7 on using the secure edge pads, that may help. In regards to the chucking pressure if I'm remembering right I don't think you can adjust that on the LE7070.
