how to differ bed quallity AR treatments.

    Dear professionals,

I work in wholesale company in East Europe.
The stock lens market in my country is separated between brand names and the rest. The rest is in most cases made in far east.
So since half a year we begin to work with new supplier. Recently we receive several complains regarding to AR coat stability on concave lens site. The amazing cases were that when the lensmeter leaves rounded prints on concave site during the lens centering:angry:. Not all the lenses but several. I wonder if there is a way to test the lenses in order to find not the promised but the real quality. In uncut form all looks almost the same.

    Thanks in advance

    Real a/r

    Hi,
I ahve had negative experiences by placing inferior quality A/R Lenses onto the Lensometer lens support system.
The fact is, with Crizal Avance A/R, that dilemma never arises due to the superior chemicals, process, and curing procedure.
Yes, it costs more, but the longevity/ customer satisfaction, and reduction of re-do costs is immesureable.
    Just My Opinio.

Actually all lenses are made in the far east, with the exception of a few, but all big brand name lenses like Essilor, Zeiss and Rodenstock are also made in the far east.

However some cheaper brands do use chemical AR systems for stock lenses. Some of them are well made. You get what you pay for.

Isn't the only major difference in AR coatings is a pill? Making production costs be very close but potentially very different quality levels. I understand branding, but why are AR prices so different for premium brands, when the costs to increase AR quality are relatively low?

I guess where I am getting with this is, why is there any low quality AR? I believe in the near future Super Hydro AR will be commoditized and even cheap coatings will have decent quality.

I know someone has some thoughts on this!!??

    Thanks folks,

I hope it would be so impolite to ask for some details regarding to stock lens AR quality. How could I know if the coat is with good AR system or it is wrong. Our company's logo is to offer good quality at reasonable prices. But sometimes we fail.
The usual practice with lens suppliers is as fallows:
    1. They contact us with offer
    2. They send us samples
    3. We place an order
    4. We receive the goods.
The weak points is in that, all the producer we have been working with claim that they produce first quality only, but later the true is different:finger:.
How could I recognize what kind of technology they use and may I trust in it. Is it possible to do some test with the lenses?

I know that almost all the brand are produced away in east, but I have never faced AR coat with residual color as Crizal which is very light and without any purple/red shades...?:( I think that if somebody produce for Essilor he could offer the same quality under other brand.

    Hi George,

    Welocme to Optiboard.
If you are worried about the quality of the lenses then you should do some tests on the lenses to verify their quality.
Things like adhesion testing, salt water boil tests, abrasion testing etc......check the Colts Laboratories website for some more infomation.
    http://www.colts-laboratories.com/
Once verified, you can do a periodic check on the suppliers quality.

    Hope this helps.
