    Adjusting SPX

    Hi everyone.

I have a Silhouette SPX frame to adjust and re-fit tomorrow. Problem is, it's about ten years since I last adjusted an SPX frame.

I know it is a cold-glaze material, but what about adjustment to hinges, temples and tips?

Is it ok to use a bit of heat while adjusting or do all changes have to be done cold?

Re-bending a plastic frame without using the frame heater just feels so wrong!

    SPX & Heat

    Hello Dr. Kenny,

SPX will shrink if you overheat the eyerim or front. Silhouette recommends cold insert of lenses; If you have to heat, do not exceed 80 degrees F. The temples should have a metal core & you can heat to adjust without any ill effects. The hinges are made of metal, therefore you should have no use for heat & adjust them like you would any regular frame.

    Best Regards,

Scott's correct Kenny. SPX material will melt like butter and should only need very low heat applied. All materials (except for glass) should be cold-snapped in. A pair of parallel jaw nylon pliers will do the trick to adjust the temples!

By the way, Scott, Silhouette's line of zyl frames are my favorite to date for ease of mounting and the clean, overall look. I wish I could edge and mount nothing but SPX's! lol

Speaking of Candy Mountain (and this is COMPLETELY off topic), here's a crazy animated short film called "Charlie the Unicorn Goes to Candy Mountain"...it's pretty funny if you can dig the insanity of the whole thing :D
