The good, the bad, and the ugly

Actually with a really good lab with experienced help, one can:
    1) Make a pencil tracing, get circumference, tell them if chord, drill, metal, plastic mount and they can send a lens that will work most of the time.
Some even can duplicate shape and other specifcations if you give them previous invoice number (stored in computer based edger).

Of course nowdays we even get jobs where no one paid any attention to special instructions (such as increase "B" by ...) at all.

What's so hard about excuse me for one moment, run to back, trace frame while blocking lenses, throw right lens in, hit start. Run back to the floor, help pt until you hear the beep, run back, throw in left lens, and wait for beep?
I do this several times a day, and though there is occasionally an issue which arrises, it's generally a smooth operation. It's not like edging requires you to stand over and stare at the edger...we calibrate it frequently enough that 99% of lenses don't need to come down any after the first run.
3-4 hours? If a pt ignores your instructions and walks in when you can't take the job, offer to schedule an appt for a later time/date which works. And even with an appt, if you've run into a broken screw, let that pt know it's gonna be a bit more complicated, could they wait a few more minutes?

    Customer's Own Frame!

    Golf,
Perhaps if you and your staff write this down on their receipt, and write it so they can see the notation, your problems may be eliminated.

    Golf,
Write down on their receipt, that the lens edging may take a few hours.
Write it down so that they can see you writing it on their receipt, this way, they have no argument.
    James Peterson
